Tears

Jan 11, 2016, 10:50 AM

I posted this last night, but felt it was worth a repost. I've teared-up at least 100 times since New Years eve just thinking about what it would feel like to win. If/when we win, I will cry like a baby...hell, I tear-up just typing what it will be like to cry like a baby. lol

This means so much to Clemson fans. Alabama has been here...they've won 15 (debatable) National championships...most every fan they have has witnessed winning a championship...we have not. We got a taste of greatness in January of 1982, and, just as athletes always say, "felt like we would be back again next year, or the next", but it took 34 years. I was 4...I don't remember it. Only a small percentage of the Clemson fanbase remembers it. To most of us, THIS is (could be) the greatest day of our Clemson lives (or second only to getting that degree we worked so hard for). This is a "I remember where I was" type day that will last forever. We KNOW how special these moments are. Many of us remember how easy winning was in the 80's, only to never win them all...but still be excited to be top 10, and expecting every year to have a chance to be great. Even more of us remember Ken Hatfield and Tommy West...we tore down goal post and carried Tommy West off the field after beating USuC in 1998, finishing 3-8 and 1-7 in conference play. We remember the 6 and 7 win seasons under Bowden, who, for all he did wrong, laid the foundation for what we experience today by his foresight with the WestZone and facilities in general. And we remember the early Dabo years...the ACCCG in 2009, only to be followed-up by a 6-7 record in 2010. We KNOW how special this is...we KNOW that, as much as we feel like we've arrived, and as much as we feel like next year we'll be even better...we KNOW this may take 34 more years to happen again...some of us know that we may never experience this again in our life. I hope the players seize the moment, understand it's importance, but play lose and have fun and play their best game of the year. I hope by mid-night I'm crying like a baby as the clock ticks down to 0:00, tears streaming down my face from 34 years of pent-up emotion...finally, once again, knowing that our Clemson Tigers are National Champions!

I was at the game in 1981, but this feels very different

Jan 11, 2016, 11:31 AM

of course back then you didn't have the constant connection via media and internet so you couldn't really share your excitement except with the people you knew so it was much more subdued and didn't have the national feel. Also we were not as dominating offensively so you never felt it would be a run away in any game we were going into that year. Wake Forest being the exception. I live in southern Middle Tennessee just south of Nashville and I am surrounded by Bammer bandwagon fans. I have my tiger paws on my vehicles and been wearing my orange all day, but get Roll Tide thrown at me at every place I go. Ugh! Go Tigers!

Re: Tears

I remember the first one. Was a great trip (Amtrack) BUT this one feels different. There is more brotherhood, higher expectations from players and fans. This feels like a journey and I hope when the final seconds tick off we have won this thing. It doesn't matter whether it is a one point win, but #### I would love to shut them down
