In downtown Clemson if you're only going to be open 3 days a week?

Its the holidays. Why open for business when no one shows up?

The fixed costs comprise of stocking the booze, and paying the rent/utilities.

Variable costs are payroll and whatever you have to replace or pay for when you are open.

If you dont have enough business coming through the door to cover your variable costs, then you close down and cover your fixed costs.

tl;dr its cheaper for them to stay closed and pay rent than stay open, pay for booze, pay employees wages, pay for the utilities, pay for an entertainer but get zero business.

That might make sense from a strict financial perspective

But, if you have to close down in order to keep from losing money because of lack of business, then you have to question the wisdom of opening a restaurant in the first place.

If you do better closed than open, then something's amiss.
