Greatest team in college football history?

Dec 30, 2018, 7:58 PM

Will the winner of next weeks game go down as the greatest ever? We will be the first 15-0 team ever. Top 2 in both offense and defensive efficiency. Arguably one of the greatest defensive lines in history. I think if bama wins the pundits take less than 5 min to crown them the greatest ever.

“Clemson wasn’t that much better with Trevor Lawrence, if at all.”

Yes, Alabama will continue to be the GOAT.

Dec 30, 2018, 8:01 PM

Even if Bama loses they are still the best team ever.

Bud Wilkinson's Oklahoma teams... They were undefeated in 47 consecutive games...

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

what was their best year?

Dec 30, 2018, 8:10 PM

did they have a top 2 offense and defense? The winner of this game will also be undefeated.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

in national media it'll only be if Alabama wins

Dec 30, 2018, 8:12 PM

It works that way for some reason. Everyone said USC in 2005 was the best team ever but then when Texas beat them, nobody called Texas the best ever.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

thats kind of what i'm thinking

Dec 30, 2018, 8:15 PM

But i think when we look back at this team in 20 years.. we will be amazed at how many all americans we had on the field at the same time.. they might not be all american's this year but soon

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Depending on your criteria, 1944 Army was most dominant...

Dec 30, 2018, 8:44 PM

Beat their opponents by an average of 52 points a game. 56 point scoring avg, holding opponents to 4 pts a game. Second was 1949 Pacific, I think third was 2013 Seminoles.

Now, if you want to go earlier check out Michigans 1901-1905 teams, or Tennessee's late 30's teams. My favorite college football stat of all time is Bob Neyland of Tenn coached 216 games and won 173. About 100 of them were shutouts. THAT is defense.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

i dont really have a criteria but i would imagine you'd need

Dec 30, 2018, 9:44 PM

a top offense and defense to even be considered.. That army team seems pretty stout based on those stats but i don't really know much about them. I was thinking one of those fsu teams with maybe 96 or 99.. they had warrick dunn and peter warrick, boulware and a few other i'm sure on D. charlie ward was the 96 qb and 99 had Weinke

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

don't forget 1995 Nebraska***

My all time heartbreak award goes to the 1905 Michigan team

Dec 30, 2018, 9:11 PM

Look at the scores of their season, then the last game. Dude committed suicide he was so distraught over "causing" their loss, no lie.

That is still probably the greatest team I’ve seen in my lifetime. What they did to #2 Florida in that championship game was unreal.

I just looked it up. 1995 Nebraska played against 4 Top 10 teams that year, including undefeated and #2 Florida in the title game. The average score was 49-18. After seeing that as well, they have my vote as the greatest in my 40 year lifespan.

These things need time, but espn will annoint Bama best ever. Some of those Miami teams were crazy good with NFL HOF'ers

Even with what's happened the last 4 years, I have no idea how we didn't win with Boyd/Hopkins/Watkins/Bryant/Ellington
