.... and be concerned. with that special teams and defensive play, it will be a challenge to get into the playoffs, and a short lived stay if we do. should have played better against nc state.

That's all great, but it won't mean anything to the playoff committee. A convincing win would have looked much better, but at least we did win the trap game -- and if we were looking ahead to FSU, that's good -- need to be impressive against them next week to seal the deal with the committee.

6 TD's isn't convincing? Yeah, the Defensive side didn't look as good, but lucky for us, our offense looked lights out which will help. It won't hurt as much as you think it will I don't believe. Actually IMO will help us, as that puts some major focus for Venables on the D going into the week of practice for Fl State (to tighten things up and correct)...I'd rather that than them be on a blowout high and get lazy for that game.

that is a very good point. some good coaching moments for the d this week. puzzled a bit about the kicking game -- i got it that they took one to the house, but we gave away a lot of field position kicking and punting away from deep returners.

Two of their wins so far, over INDIANA and NOTHERN ILLINOIS, were by ONE TOUCHDOWN apiece.
We went on the road against a pretty good team and won by two touchdowns.
Tell me again sarge, what's your concern with the polls at this point? We faced some adversity and still won fairly convincingly. We can work on defense and special team in practice and improve. We're still undefeated and solidly in the playoff. Just keep winning and we're fine. Next week it's the friendly confines of Death Valley against an opponent who we owe a beating. I like our chances.

We weren't perfect, but we didn't have to be. Won going away and could have played better.
