I would have put Anthony Waters in the top ten. Maybe give John Leake at least a mention. Other than that a great list.

Great list. Splitting hairs I would go:

Apr 8, 2015, 12:48 PM

1. Davis: The centerpiece of statistically the best D we have ever had. The leader of the only team to win it all.
2. Simmons: Unfortunately the supporting cast wasn't nearly what Davis had, so I can live with either of these at #1
3. Kirkland: Most intimidating LB we have ever had. He would have been the equivalent of a 1 or 2 Star recruit as he only had one D 1 offer
4. McDaniel: He was a tackling machine and manned the middle during our longest period of sustained dominance on D
5. Adams: His stats were sick. He was an automatic double digit tackler in every game
6. Anthony: If he could have had Venables all 4 years he would be at the top IMO. Steele had him a mess before BV came to the rescue
7.Hill: he was a master at shooting the gap and getting the TFL
8. Simmons: A pysical freak. Lateral movement and coverage skills were maybe tops
9. Johnson: Another physical specimen. He could really bring the lumber too
10. Rembert: If memory serves me he was in a time share with other OLBs on the 81 team. Always seemed to have a nose for causing turnovers. I remember the blocked punt against USUC the 81 year

Honorable Mention
Rahim Abdullah, Andy Headen (Bandit) James Earle (bandit) Ashley Shepard, Norman Haynes, Waters, Brewster, Shuey, Brown, etc.

Ask Herschel Walker if Danny Triplet would hit you. He started in front of Rembert and along side Davis. Hard-nosed mountain boy from Boone.

Remember my father yelling "Danny Boy" at the screen

a few times after Triplett hit someone.

Lol....Triplett lowered the boom on a bunch of people....

the OP had a great list....hard to argue with any of it.

One of my faves (after Jeff Davis and Levon K) was "Big" Ed McDaniel who people said would never make it as a Clemson linebacker because he was too small when he enrolled.....I hope he gets as big a laugh out of that now as I do....its fun to think of him and Kirkland haunting the dreams of the offensive co-ordinators they faced.

Ben Boulware would fit right in there with that group of folks too....very similar on-the-field attitude

seriously? Andy Headen....
