Swinney gives Furman permission to speak with Napier

Head Coach Dabo Swinney said prior to practice tonight that he had given permission to Furman University to speak with Clemson offensive coordinator Billy Napier about their head coach position. Full Story »

Clemson is always in my prayers. But BN going off to Furman will be at the top, and in the closing of my prayers. Dear Lord, please let Furman close a deal with BN that he can't refuse.

i'll take "how to be fired without actually being fired" for 500.00 alex

do we get a refund (last two seasons) for his hack of a hire or does he just get to throw crappy coordinators under the bus to make up for his shortcomings as a head coach?

say hello to Tommy Bowden Jr.

This looks like a win-win to me. Good move for Napier and allows us to bring in a strong OC. That and a strong recruiting class (just added Watkins at WR) set us up for a nice improvement with a little patience.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Question is what OC do we go after? I'm still not sure that

Nov 22, 2010, 7:04 PM

Napier is the only problem we have. It's pretty obvious to me that Jeff Scott isn't doing a very good job coaching up our WR's. That and Dabo meddling in the offense might be a bigger contributing factor to our lack of offensive production this season. I guess we'll see. I hope none of our commitments go elsewhere if Napier ends up leaving and taking Furman job.

Nov 22, 2010, 7:07 PM

so your fine with having a head coach that can only recruit?

i guess it doesn't matter if we get good results

but at the same time...we never got where we wanted to go with TB and that was the same deal

i'd love to have him as a recruiter

not as a head football coach

but your right roberts...the results truly speak for themselves...

we have been setting the college football world ablaze

Napier should do what he thinks is best for him. I know he does lots of recruiting tasks. I thought you told me Scott was the mastermind. I don't follow Chuck. I am not sure why you have to attack

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

According to that, Charlie Harbison is our best recruiter.***

reason we are having a bad year offensively. Jeff Scott has done little to develop our WR's IMO, and it seems like Dabo meddles in the playcalling too much.

I will give Dabo credit, however. He did at least get us to the ACCCG. Bowden couldn't even do that! Bottom line is you have to recruit well to win. If he can get the players currently committed to sign in February, I'm willing to give him 2 more years to see if he can bring home a championship.

Re: Swinney gives Furman permission to speak with Napier

I'm not sure who (or what) to attribute our recruiting class to, but the results speak for themselves. Having said that, If Napier was instrumental in getting these kids, (I'm sure he was) it would be a shame to lose him.

However, coaching involves recruiting, play calling, coaching, etc... We haven't had issues with not being able to recruit at Clemson. Our issues have been getting wins and championships.
