Gotta say, I am loving the shift in O-line recruiting

Sep 25, 2019, 8:52 AM

We used to be known as the guys that recruited terrific wideouts and D linemen, now O-line is one of our recruiting strengths. That's how you sustain success, with the beef up front. LOVE it.

I think the criticism was put to bed permanently after the azz-whipping administered by the OL to Bama in January. That was about as dominant a performance by an OL that I've ever seen.

The commitment of Will Putnam really turned things around for the perception of Caldwell.

I can remember reading on the board the week of Putnam's commitment that Caldwell needed to go and that he couldn't recruit or develop players.

Since the Putnam commitment, our o-line recruiting has been quite impressive and those pessimist are trying to find other things to complain about.

I believe we have had 7 4 star o linemen commit since Putnam, and one or two of them may get a 5th star at one point or another.

No kidding...thinking about our QBs scambling for their life

Sep 25, 2019, 10:33 AM

Charlie Whitehurst was one of the Clemson great QBs but unfortunately he was always scrambling for his life....we've had quite a few of those so thrilled for the OL improvements.

It has taken our CEO head coach ELEVEN years to FINALLY

Sep 25, 2019, 12:02 PM

understand this.

Maybe NOW we can start winning something more than the state championship.

lol

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.

The way the O-line improved during the season last year and became dominant at the end was amazing. I'm sure recruits noticed.

Seems to me we've successfully recruited a handful of 4 and 5 stars on OL

Sep 25, 2019, 12:06 PM

Years prior to, they just didn't work out.

I can think of a couple, but I know there were more...

Jake Fruhmonogan (or whatever his name was) was a 4* who quit and went to FL.

Patrick Destefano was a 4/5* who had to leave the game bc of back injuries.

There is a chance that 1 or 2 of the guys from the '20 and '21 classes won't turn out as expected also.

This doesn't hurt nearly as much when all of your options are 4 and 5 star guys instead of really hoping that your 1 good pull in a class can live up to the expectations.

Oh for sure, you're right! It just seemed like we kept getting

Sep 25, 2019, 12:14 PM

close to breaking through by position, and needing that 1 or 2 guys to show Clemson can turn out OL, and they just didnt work.

Oliver is another name coming to mind. 4* dude.

Just seems we were getting close and then.. not. This is definitely different.

of all the positions, recruiting well on the OL

Sep 25, 2019, 12:30 PM

Is the most important for sustaining the run we are on.

It’s hard to believe considering how bad our OL was for so long. It will only
Get better as we get more and more OL in the draft.
