I might understand FSU jumping us, but how do you put them at #1 ahead of Alabama?? Someone's smoking crack...

This is not the polls. This is ESPN's Football Power Index, which if you change it from "current" to "preseason, you'll see Clemson was #4, and FSU was already #1.

They still have Tenn and Ole Miss in the top 10 so of course FSU's win put them at #1. Even when the SEC is bad they are the best because of the (10 pt SEC curve)

Good to see the SEC still has 4 in the top 10, 7 in top 16***

This isn't the polls yet. Just the power index.
Which in case, we moved up by 1. We were 4th in the preseason Power Index, now 3rd. FSU was already #1 in the preseason.

At least we have 2 of the top 5, which is equal with the mighty SEC. I don't understand TN even being in the top 20.

TN had a lot of both going into this year. I'm not a big fan of the FPI, but it's definitely not a "poll" of any kind.

It's football math by inept math nerds.
You want (by far) the better formula, go to S&P+ on Football Outsiders.
They haven't released their ratings yet and the first few weeks are always twonky, but by Week 4 or 5 their ratings are going to be by far the most accurate in reality and will get progressively more so the more the season goes on...whereas FPI never seems to get any more accurate. FPI still thought Oklahoma was better than Clemson last year...even after Clemson beat the Sooners by 20.

Can we stop thinking ESPN FPI is a legit rating?

It consistently overweights SEC teams, and has too much bias throughout the year from preseason ranks. Thankfully the playoff committee doesn't really care about these stats.
After SEC losses this week: Auburn increases from 17th to 16th LSU only dropped from 2nd to 5th Tennessee (should be loss) dropped from 5th to 7th Ole Miss dropped from 7th to 9th (doesn't appear FPI updated yet)
Meanwhile the final FPI ranks from last year had Oklahoma (!!!), a 10-3 Ole Miss team and Ohio State ranked higher than Clemson. SoCal had 6 losses and ranked 12th.
RK TEAM W-L PROJ W-L WIN OUT% CONF WIN% REM SOS RK FPI 1 Alabama, SEC 14-1 2 Oklahoma, Big 12 11-2 3 OSU, Big Ten 12-1 4 Ole Miss, SEC 10-3 5 Clemson, ACC 14-1 6 Baylor, Big 12 10-3 7 Stanford, Pac-12 12-2 8 LSU, SEC 9-3 9 Tennessee, SEC 9-4 10 TCU, Big 12 11-2 11 Notre Dame, FBS Indep. 10-3 12 USC, Pac-12 8-6 13 FSU, ACC 10-3 14 Arkansas, SEC 8-5 15 Michigan, Big Ten 10-3 16 UNC, ACC 11-3 17 Miss St, SEC 9-4 18 Michigan State, Big Ten 12-2 19 Georgia, SEC 10-3 20 UCLA, Pac-12 8-5 21 Texas A&M, SEC 8-5 22 West Virginia, Big 12 8-5 23 Oregon, Pac-12 9-4 24 Oklahoma State, Big 12 10-3 25 Cal, Pac-12 8-5

Who cares what any of these fools think. If & when we are 15-0, it will all correct itself (well...except for Corso the clown of course. He will still rank us behind FSU and at least 2 SEC..SEC..SEC..SEC teams)
