It's a shame...

We all saw what he could do with talent. His offense put up 31 last year. Unfortunately, KP didn't play like KP this year and we lacked threats at wide out.

Billy didn't develop either 4-star QB to be top performers.

Billy Napier wasn't just the OC, he was the QB coach, right? Parker and Boyd were both very highly rated QBs out of high school but Napier didn't develop either one into a top performer. Even when Napier had some exceptional weapons in 2009 (Spiller, Ford, Palmer, et al) the offense stank. The game-planning and play calling was weak. (Remember the 2009 GT, TCU, & UMD losses?)
The offense underperformed the last 2 years, even with Top 20 recruiting classes and superstar weapons in 2009. The offense ranked: * 86th in scoring offense (down from 28th in 2009 with Spiller, Ford, Austin, & Palmer). * 87th in total offense (down from 74th in 2009). * 115th in red-zone offense (down from 56th in 2009). * 98th in red-zone TD percentage (down from 76th in 2009).
It's unfortunate that TDP promoted Dabo and that Dabo promoted Napier because now Dabo is forced to fire a great recruiter.

That was about as classy a statement after a firing as I have read, ever, but he needed to go. Maybe he will learn a lot from the great opportunity Dabo gave him, and I hope Dabo and TDP learned a lot, too. When you have your a-- on the line, don't take chances on a long shot.

Good luck, Billy, you will find success somewhere, I hate we lost you. What I mean by that is, I think it was good to have you on our staff, but you just needed a little more time to learn that type of job. I hate we lost a good recruiter. Dabo promoted you prematurely, and just like in the business world, there are a lot of things to learn before being vice president or assistant manager. It seems like just yesterday I was in college, and you were QB at Furman at that same time. I have personally never met you, but I had some buddies who played baseball at Furman who think a lot of you, and I know some girls who are friends with your wife. I was out and about with some friends today when one of the girls with us, a friend of your wife's, got a text message of this news and told us about it. The story had just broke, and I could tell she felt for you and your family. Good luck wherever you go!

where you had little chance to succeed. I think you'll be a good coach one day but it was just too early.
