Good luck to them. Tommy West is a good coach. Memphis may be one of the worst D1 situations in the nation. But he managed to get them to bowls every other year, or so. And I don't think Tommy had a fair shot at Clemson. Even he will admit that he wasn't ready for the job at that time. But he was hired because he was the closest person to Danny that was ought there. But the lay of the land at Clemson was different when he took over after Hatfield had destroyed recruiting, and the program. But the expectations were high, so Tommy didn't last. Good guy, and a good coach. If you ever want to entertain yourself, put in the words Tommy West in a youtube search and watch his rant when he was fired at Memphis. It is the best.

One may argue that Hatfield never had a chance. To say he destroyed recruiting is a stretch. The hate and division inside Clemson Nation at the time did not lend itself well to recruiting. Hatfield at a different time in Clemson history probably would have done well.
