Not worth half again the price as EZ Go/Club Car***

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oh, I'd go electric if the hood isn't too hilly.

Feb 29, 2016, 8:53 AM

I never cared for the gas ones with sluggish take off the noise, even though they are pretty darn quiet. If you take care of the batteries, they'll last a long time but a set will cost you a good 600-800 depending on 36v or 48v if I recall correctly.

my .02$

supposed to be down 1 spot, lol

Feb 29, 2016, 8:55 AM

and I like the way ezgo's look (the one's with 2 head lights. Can't remember the model).

Quality wise, I don't know the diff. We have an EZGO and have no probs.

Look at Yamaha too.

Depends. What's the purpose?***

Riding around my hood drinking beer.

Feb 28, 2016, 10:42 PM

It might make it over to the Esso one day, but I doubt it.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

electric,

Feb 28, 2016, 7:59 AM

it's free and doesn't use fossil fuels

Bernie now paying for electricity also?***

Gas if you plan on keeping it awhile

Feb 28, 2016, 12:21 PM

$200 rebuild vs $1000+ for new batteries.

Just bought batteries for 36 volt EZGo

Feb 29, 2016, 7:24 AM [ in reply to Gas if you plan on keeping it awhile ]

paid $660 installed for US2200 brand batteries. They are less expensive
than the Trojan brand and just as reliable long term.

I will be buying a gas one soon. Best brand for a gas cart IMO
is the Yamaha cart. Better suspension (shocks with coils instead of leaf springs),
reliable engine. Good on gas.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Gas if you're going to use it on the road in Edisto.

Feb 28, 2016, 12:42 PM

Those electric ones are way too slow

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I have been to edisto in at least 2 decades.

Feb 28, 2016, 10:44 PM

And probably will never go back again.

So thats not a big concern.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well then, do what you want.***

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

From my experience

Feb 29, 2016, 8:28 AM

Gas is stinky and loud. I prefer electric for what you are looking to use it for simply because it's lower profile.

Batteries are about $600 to replace and will last 3-5 years. I've had an electric ez go for about 7 years and am on my 2nd set of batteries. Bought it used with used batteries, replaced them after about 3 years. The current set I've had for I think 4 years and they still have a good year or two left on them I think. Just keep an eye on water level and keep it charged.

For ez go v club car I think the main difference is the console. Ez go has cup holders in the middle whereas club is I think more expensive and has the cup holders on the sides. IMO a club car while a little nicer doesn't really justify the expense.

I got mine used for I think $2300 and could still probably get $2000 for it. Electric ez go is what I have and have no regrets.

Do consider getting a high speed chip. I don't remember but think the chip is around $20 and another fiddy to install. No idea about DIY on this.

Wood recommend getting a sticker for road use which requires minimal insurance. That will lessen the hassle you could get from cops if they get interested in you. Also, familiarize yourself with laws...I think around here it's not legal to take on roads with a posted speed limit of over 30 and no roads at all between sunset and sunup.

Good info; thanks!***

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

np, one more thing

Feb 29, 2016, 9:44 AM

be careful. I live in an area where there are a TON of golf carts. There is at least 1 pretty serious injury I hear about every year. It's easy to be all like yeah i got it but not me I'm a good driver. Crazy shat happens man.

Some have happened to kids, some to adults, some when alcohol is involved, others while totally sober. Flipped carts, peeps coming out of carts, all sorts of sheyyat man.

The 1st whirrled scruggle is real man. I've seen it first hand.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

word. Gotta be safe

Feb 29, 2016, 9:55 AM

That's another reason why I doubt it would ever make it to the Esso on game day.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

how mechanically inclined are you?

Feb 29, 2016, 8:32 AM

Electric carts are almost maintenance-free. Keep the battery posts clean and you're good. Might have to replace a solenoid or something over 10 years.

With Gas you have tune ups, fluid changes, and all kinds of litle parts that go bad.

a few other variables to consider:
if kids are involved, go electric. Because they can break anything.
if you live in a really hilly area, gas may be better, because electric on steep hills can be an issue.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Very.

Feb 29, 2016, 9:41 AM

The only downside to gas to me is smelling like exhaust after I get off of it.

I looked at the EZ Go XSV that uses an AC motor rather than as DC motor as the others use. Apparently this is a popular swap in the aftermarket as the batteries last longer and the cart has more torque to get up hills. I rode in one Saturday and the dealer took me up a pretty step hill; I was impressed with that.

Ever heard of the AC motor on them? I would have thought that if its as great as the dealer was saying, the other manufacturers would have moved to it as well?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

no, not aware of the AC option

Feb 29, 2016, 9:50 AM

and I dunno why you worry so much about smelling like exhaust fumes. I don't ever recall being aware of a fume smell driving a gas cart.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Just seems the last time I drove one that was gas I

Feb 29, 2016, 9:53 AM

remember a little bit later smelling like exhaust fumes.

I know I used to after riding a motorcycle but I just figured that was from everyones cars around me.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Typically when you huff gasoline, you'll smell like fumes.***

Feb 29, 2016, 9:54 AM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

maybe if you tailgate another gas cart

Feb 29, 2016, 9:56 AM [ in reply to Just seems the last time I drove one that was gas I ]

you may absorb some fumes, but I'm not sure driving one on the open trail would get you stinky.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Golf cart net

Feb 29, 2016, 8:59 AM

You see, you wanna go with a model where you can limit your speed.

Those things aren't made for braking down from 35mph on a dime.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah I think they all come with some kind of governor

Feb 29, 2016, 9:25 AM

unless you get gas and get it going downhill then put it in neutral, you ain't getting that kinda speed from a golf cart.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why do I want to limit my speed?***

Feb 29, 2016, 9:41 AM [ in reply to Re: Golf cart net ]

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If that's the case, get one of these.

Feb 29, 2016, 9:43 AM

With any of the other options you are definitely limiting your speed.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thats seems like overkill.

Feb 29, 2016, 9:54 AM

I was just wondering if there was a benefit to limiting the speed of the cart? (saves batteries or something)

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Probably prevents fires.***
