Golf Courses in Greenville area

Jun 30, 2013, 3:03 PM

Looking to play next weekend. Anybody have some advice?

Anybody play Furman's course recently? Only a short drive from where I will be.

Thanks for the help.

I haven't played Furman in a few years but hear that it is in good shape as it usually is. If you are in the northern part of Greenville, Cherokee Valley near North Greenville University is always good to play. It has a great downhill par 3 with a nice view.

I haven't played Furman since the state high school tournament and that was back in 93 I think. Course kinda got the best of me at times. Not my favorite track. Yeah I believe it was in good shape. has some good holes and a few tough holes. It just isn't my favorite designed golf course. I think in the Greenville area you could probably find a better course than Furman.

I played furman a month ago and highly recommend it. I had not played it in probably 5 years; they have lengthened the course and changed some of the greens. Great Track.

Verdae is horrible

Furman and Willow Creek are by far the best public courses. after that I'd go north to Links of Tryon. Verdae has a good layout but the greens are so bad that I refuse to play there.

Furman is good...

if you like incredibly fast greens and unfair pin placements.

Of course, if you're as bad as I am, most courses are unfair.

How are you man?

I agree with the others that Willow Creek is a great course. Actually it's one of my favorite as of late. Play from the Blues (more like the white tees on most courses). If you are striking the ball well you should score well. Greens are very true in my experience with a little challenge in the reads depending on how dry/wet.

situated at the far end of one of the runways, and it's still a goat track.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

My recommendations (in no particular order)....

Jul 1, 2013, 8:37 AM

Willow Creek

River Falls

Verdae Green

Southern Oaks

If you are going to be up near Furman, all of these courses would be a bit of a drive for you.

Up near the Furman/TR area, I would suggest the following;

Green Valley (I believe it is still semi-private).

Furman

Cherokee Valley
