SALUTE

Apr 29, 2020, 8:29 AM

To a Tiger Alum William Meredith Manning, Jr. 98 who died on 26/04/2020. A World War II veteran who flew 99 combat missions in China and Burma. On his 62nd combat mission, he survived the crash of his B 24 and evaded the Japanese for three weeks in the jungle with the help of friendly Chinese before returning to friendly lines. After his 99th combat mission he was sent home for injuries he received from bailing out of his aircraft. A true hero. Thank you!!

A true American hero......what we really miss in this country this day and time.....He loved our country and was willing to die for it.....just like my mom’s brother who made the ultimate sacrifice for this great nation and died serving in World War II......Freedom is not Free and the day we stop believing this we will be free no more......Go Tigers!!!!

actually ran into each other even though one was Army & one was Air Force. They died a couple of years ago within 24 hours of each other. One was a tail gunner on a B-24

It's because of men like him that we are still speaking English!! God bless his memory!! My brother also flew a B-24 and was shot down on his 44th mission over the Polesti oil fields. Some of the locals hid him from the Germans and eventually got him back to Italy.

I bet he could share some stories. I rented from a man who fought in Europe. I loved listening to his stories, especially in The Battle of the Bulge. He passed away two years ago.
