Week 0 came about because teams were trying to find opponents and Team A had week 3 open and Team B had week 2 open so they compromised and played a week early.
Most coaches don't like it because they don't get to start practicing any earlier but sometimes it's the only way to get a game in. With the new realignments starting next year you'll probably see a lot more Week 0 games.

team. I managed to scoop up Tony Gonzalez last year with my third pick. I got laughed at a lot. WHY THE TUCK ARE THERE PEOPLE WHO RETIRED STILL IN THE SYSTEM. I played the whole year without a decent tight end because of that pick.
