Has been pretty quiet on the GaTech coaching job!

Dec 6, 2018, 10:57 AM

Any legitimate rumors?

Honestly, I wouldnt be surprised if the GT Administration forgot they even needed to hire a football coach. They just dont give a #### about their athletic program.

I haven't heard a thing, seems odd that you wouldn't name a coach early to get recruiting going.

Wasn't there discussion about Ken Whisenhunt? Has anything changed on that front?

Geoff Collins from Temple. Already met/interviewed***

He supposedly has George O'Leary pushing for him as well.

Dec 6, 2018, 12:14 PM

And yes, that seems to matter in this circumstance.

Whisenhunt was a teammate of the Athletic Director, and supposedly the preferred choice of one of their largest boosters. He supposedly got cold feet after the tepid response from their fan base.

Regardless of who their choice is, that coach is going to struggle until he's able to flip the roster - the team is built to run the option, and really doesn't have the personnel required to run a more traditional offense. With GaTech's unique academic requirements (all majors are BS, requiring calculus, and they require 4 math credits for high school applicants), I'm not so sure how viable JuCo and grad transfers are as an option to supplement...

Not to criticize the substance of your post, but they added a School of Liberal Arts about 10 years ago.

Apparently they're trying to get more females enrolled. My daughter was accepted but decided she didn't want to go to ATL.

Temple Coach Geoff Collins met with Georgia Tech Athletic Director Todd Stansbury on Wednesday morning in New York City to discuss the GT job, OwlsDaily has learned from two sources.

It is going to take some time to find another head coach that knows how to run triple option.

I know you are joking but I think it would really speed up the turnaround if they hire a coach who uses some option concepts in their offense that could gradually change the style of players needed instead of trying to abandon the entire roster.

I heard that the Georgia Tech students have

Dec 6, 2018, 12:58 PM

decided to just build an Robot to coach.

Won't have to pay it anything, will better looking than PJ, and it will have a much better personality.

Not to mention that robot can easily run a wishbone offense.

They should hire that kid who gave the "This is Ga Tech" speech a few years ago.

Now you know the real reason Urban's leaving...........

Ohio State - you can expect Tech to announce his hiring as their HC any day now.

Hope Mike Leach is interested , would love to face that dude every year . Good football mind and a really interesting person to boot . I think he is a reincarnated pirate , but may need more data to be sure .

Reincarnated means that he died at some point.

He could be immortal.

He looks almost exactly like he did 10 years ago at Texas Tech.

Does anybody really know for sure where he came from or what he did to become a major college coach?

I just heard a promo on 680 The Fan in ATL pumping their weekly spot with the Ga Tech AD saying “Will it be Clemson OC Tony Elliott or Chargers OC Ken Whisenhunt?”. Almost puked in my mouth.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

my husband says Geoff Collins

Dec 6, 2018, 5:11 PM

coached there twice previously. Considered a good recruiter and well-respected by players from 1999-2008. Collins wants the job and knows what he is getting which is good for GT as it is a unique school.

Go Jackets. Go Tigers.
