GFS model versus European models

I believe that this is fairly accurate, but I would trust the European models more. I found out yesterday why the European models are typically more dependable for hurricanes than the GFS models. I attended a LAA meeting yesterday. LAA is the NASA/Langley Research Center Alumni Association. I spoke with one of the officers who had knowledge in this area. He said that the Europeans divided the atmosphere into altitude layers like a stack of pancakes, and this large amount of additional data made their models more accurate and dependable...although it requires a LOT more super-computer number crunching, So, I asked him why GFS didn't do the same. The sad answer is BUDGET. :(

The cheap solution is we should just let Russian hackers go in to deal with it. Call the file "Election Returns" and they wont pass it up

I heard the same thing from my brother in law who is in the shipping business. The Euro was more accurate for Matthew and he said also for Irma. I had been watching the Euro which previously had landfall on the upper SC coast. Now the GFS is showing that and the Euro shows Hilton Head/Savannah landfall.
