Frontier Airlines

Apr 11, 2018, 10:16 AM

Any of you fellow UDPs flown with Frontier? We MIGHT use them to fly to Red Rocks and I need to know what the pitfalls are. I see that any carryon and any checked luggage cost money and I know you don't get ANY drinks and/or snacks, but that isn't a really big deal for me. What else should I be concerned with?

I don't fly often but have always used Delta/American/United when I fly. I don't mind lines cause the kids will not be with us.

Yep, flew from Atlanta to Denver on them a few years ago

Apr 11, 2018, 10:19 AM

Probably one of the better flying experiences I've had. They got cool animal pics on the planes too, definitely a plus.

The cool thing about Frontier Airlines is most definitely

Apr 11, 2018, 10:19 AM

the open cockpit.

Do you have to pay extra for the wing walk? Or is that

Apr 11, 2018, 10:21 AM

included?

Their seats are uncomfortable as ####.

Apr 11, 2018, 10:27 AM

No cushion at all. Reminiscent to sitting on two sheets of plywood for 3 hours. Would not recommend for west coast flight.

Also, like you said, no drinks so you are either stuck buying a $5 water on the plane or a $5 water in the terminal since you can’t bring any through security. You WILL get parched on a 3 hour flight.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

PRO TIP

Apr 11, 2018, 10:29 AM

Take an empty water bottle with you and fill in the terminal.

Freeze a water bottle

Apr 11, 2018, 10:29 AM [ in reply to Their seats are uncomfortable as ####. ]

had a security guy @ GSP tell me quietly in line that you "can't bring liquids on your carry-on thru security....but ice isn't a liquid, now, is it?"

I haven't tried this tho. Godspeed.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I do this vodka

Apr 11, 2018, 10:42 AM

jk vodka won't freeze

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I did this coming back from Las Vegas a few months ago

Apr 11, 2018, 11:11 AM [ in reply to Freeze a water bottle ]

And they let me through with it, and didn't even ask anything about it.

Downside is having to let it thaw out enough to drink.

after check and carryon luggage costs

Apr 11, 2018, 10:30 AM

do you really save anything?

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg2005_majors_champ.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-xtiger.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Check one bag between us and use backpack as "personal

Apr 11, 2018, 10:32 AM

item" which is free. $500 versus $700 and the checked bag is $40. Save the same as the cost of the tickets to one night of shows.

Apr 11, 2018, 10:35 AM

are Southwest's planes much different than any other (non trans atlantic) plane? Do you not line up somehow somewhere for other flights boarded in some order, or do you get a direct police escort from the parking deck to the plane?

If I had to fly more than a few times a year I'd have to re-evaluate my career choice. The only thing worse than having to fly a bunch would be commuting through Atlanta every day.
