I think so. We will miss Sammy, but look who is coming back.

Deeper, not better

Looking over the roster, unless Scott is the real deal we have no one even comparable to Sammy.

Kitt is good, but not even similar to Sammy

40 time listed as 4.59. I'm fairly certain Sammy could run that time with his shoes tied together. I expect big things from Kit, but he is not in Sammy's league coming in as a true freshmen.

coming into Clemson. However, he was the 15th best recruit in the nation.

He may not have Sammy's speed, but speed isn't everything. Kid is a play maker like Sammy, so is Scott. I think over the next 2-3 years we're going to be better than we have ever been at the WR position.

The difference between good and elite is speed

Speed turns the 10 yard catch into the 80 yard catch.

I remember seeing in one of the highlights from their freshman year. Sammy broke for a long TD and a defensive guy had an angle on him. Peake was trialing Sammy and actually caught up to him and blocked the defender so Sammy could score. Peake showed some crazy speed on that play. I hope he can get it back after his rehab. Chad Kelly and Cooper had unbelievable recoveries but neither of them are back to full speed yet.

We'll won't see a receiver better than Sammy for many years.

Like closer to eternity. The problem isn't replacing Sammy, its reloading weapons to not have a drop off in production. With Mike, TJ, Charone, Martavis, Adam, Artavis, GHop, and Kitt, we will replace the production, not Sammy. You can't replace him.

I don't think you replace him with anyone of his caliber only because that's nigh on impossible.
I think you try to replace his productivity through scheming other receivers and using their strengths. We saw last Thursday night that Bryant is perfectly capable to be the long double-move or post/fly route guy. He also showed he can catch the ball over the middle. Of course he didn't do what Sammy can do with that crossing route, but thats where you see if we do have a speed guy who can begin to turn those 5 yard passes into 40.

I think it possible to think we may be better overall at WR

(Though I don't really agree with the sentiment) Even if you don't see any individual WR being better than the one we lose.

Bryant is the only proven game changer right now
Nov 18, 2013, 3:10 PM
|

If he leaves we are left with:
Humphries: excellent possession receiver, but not going to win you a game Peake: Coming back from an ACL Hopper: Disappointing season Mike Williams: Possibly the star of the bunch Green: Supposedly has the speed, but still raw Priester: 3* hold over from last season Kitt: 4* true frosh Scott: 4* true frosh
We will have more bodies, but nothing proven. We will need to hit it big with one of our true freshmen, or Hopper is going to need to remove his head from his rear end.

Sammy made it as a KR, not a WR (which is strange because he isn't an elite kick returner, at least recently)
