"big rivalries" are really just big games. For FSU and Miami fans, that game is a rivalry, for me it is usually a good game between two teams. Same with USC/Notre Dame, Auburn/Alabama, Georgia/Florida, OSU/Michigan, TX/OU.

Calling these games national rivalries is misleading. They are rivalries for the fans of these programs, they are merely games of national interest for the rest of us. 5 years ago, no one I knew cared who won the USC/ND game since neither team was very good. This year, the game was different - Same 2 teams just both were in the top 10 this year.

The argument with OSU/Michigan is weak - again it is a big game for those fans, but for the rest of us it is simply another game. Neither has a shot at the national championship, and quite honestly I don't really care who the Big 10 champion is.

I'd say Rhymer really understands the rivalry***

to quote Scott-
"This is the biggest game in the world to you and me. This is the biggest game in the world to the fans that donate money to these schools. This is the biggest game in the world to the coaches that depend so much on winning this game to help their security. This is the biggest game in the world to these players that come from towns and counties where Tigers and Gamecocks both reside and are ready to rib those very players when they come home on Christmas break."
When everything is said and done, it is still a "game"; but boy its really tough remembering that when the chickens are all up in your face. Priorities, priorities, priorities..........
GO TIGERS!
