For those that don't know this story about Dwight Clark &

the 49ers. Dwight Clark and Steve Fuller were roommates their senior year at Clemson. Bill Walsh (HC of the 49ers) was visiting Clemson to work out Fuller. He called Fuller and Clark answered the phone. He asked Clark if he'd be willing to catch for Fuller, to which Clark replied in the positive.

Come draft time, Fuller went in the 1st round because Walsh didn't have a 1st round pick and wasn't able to trade up. Walsh took Montana in the 3rd round and since he was impressed by Clark, took him in the 10th round.

So, there it is.

Gotta agree. I don't know whether the Chiefs fully appreciated Fuller, but he was a great fit for the Bears. ("This is Steve, and it's no wonder...")

Another interesting note on the Dwight Clark story was that he never completely unpacked during his rookie season, always expecting to be cut. How's that for remaining humble?

Hard to believe that Fuller was drafted so far ahead of Montana.

We obviously love Fuller, but I don’t think the 49ers would’ve won 4 Super Bowls with him as their QB.
