Oh no, policy based on evidence instead of arbitrary beliefs about the best way to deal with drug addiction, what will we do?!

The war on drugs is a failure. All it has led to is a massive increase in the US prison population while doing nothing to actually reduce the number of people using illegal drugs. The "Land of the Free" makes up 5% of the world's population and 25% of the worlds prisoners. The highest rate in any developed country!

Not to mention this effort has ended up costing taxpayers an estimated $1 trillion since 1971 for arresting, processing, and keeping these people locked up.

We can look to Portugal to see a successful example of drug policy. They decriminalized all drugs in 2001 and have since seen huge drops in overdoses, HIV infection and drug-related crime.

So while Oregon decriminalizing drugs may seem crazy at first glance, it's a position backed up by a lot of studies and examinations of other countries more successful drug policies.

Also plastic straws aren't illegal in Oregon, you just have to ask for one, but nice try!

Falsehood flies, and truth comes limping after it, so that when men come to be undeceived, it is too late; the jest is over, and the tale hath had its effect: like a man, who hath thought of a good repartee when the discourse is changed, or the company parted; or like a physician, who hath found out an infallible medicine, after the patient is dead.

The Party has been using religion since the 80’s to keep a large block of their followers in line.
