For Kentucky to win the SEC championship

Mar 15, 2015, 3:23 PM

They had to defeat:

A 16-16 Florida team
A 15- 20 Arkansas team
A 26 - 8 Arkansas team they ran off the court in the regular season

Kentucky played 5 ranked teams all year:

Kansas
Texas
UNC
Louisville
Arkansas

Clemson played 6 ranked teams in conference.

The SEC is set up for Kentucky to dominate. I hope they run into a buzz saw in the NCAA tournament. No more SEC cupcakes for you Cal.

any attempt to diminish how good UK is going to

one and done guys? Sure.

very good? absolutely

if they lose to anyone it will be a big upset

They are a good team

Mar 15, 2015, 4:06 PM

They aren't invincible and they haven't had to play anyone in conference play. The SEC is terrible. Put them through the ACC meat grinder that we went through and I think they drop a few games. While we were going

UNC
A - Louisville
A - Pitt
A - UVA
Syracuse

They were going

Vs Ole Miss
A - TAMU
Vs - Missouri
A - Alabama
Vs - Vandy

I know which schedule lends to going undefeated in the regular season.

I do think UK would've lost a game or two in the ACC (depending on road games) but it doesnt really matter.

The schedule comparison below isnt a good one. They beat UNC by double digits at home, beat UofL by 8 on the road, Pitt and Syracuse are basically Ole Miss, LSU, TAMU,etc. and the game @UVA would be a tough one.

Kentucky is really, really good and will be hard to beat. Its possible, but it'll take a special effort with one or more of the following things happening.

1) Opposing team hits 10+ threes
2) UK shoots <40%
3) UK shoots poorly from foul line
4) Refs call it very tight and cheap and key players stay in foul trouble
5) UK shoots 1-15 from 3 line
6) A team like Wisconsin or Arizona just battling shot for shot.

They have the ability to wear teams down and play very, very well under pressure. Guys like the Harrisons, Devin Booker and Cauley-Stein thrive under pressure late in games.

Sounds like you have that coot argument they use for sec vs acc football schedules..... ??

Re: For Kentucky to win the SEC championship

Mar 15, 2015, 3:58 PM

I think his argument is that sec basketball is bad, and you can't argue any comparison to football.

I think Wisconsin can beat Kentucky, or someone like Duke/Arizona could win if they shoot lights out.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Right... but he's also making reference to UK being

Mar 15, 2015, 4:02 PM

overrated (at least that's how I read it)....

and I think that's comical

Don't think they are over rated

Mar 15, 2015, 4:07 PM

Don't think they would be undefeated in the ACC, the Big 10, or the Big 12.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't know... maybe, maybe not...

Mar 15, 2015, 4:09 PM

but they are good, very good...

but i'm like you... i'd love to see them get knocked off

I would have loved to see them play people

Mar 15, 2015, 4:11 PM

I just don't buy the hype of them being undefeated. SEC basketball is terrible, and when Florida is down, there is no one than can even compete with Kentucky. They wouldn't find that in the ACC, Big 10, Big East, or Big 12. They basically had a cake walk against a bunch of teams that would be around Clemson's level of basketball.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree with that...

Mar 15, 2015, 4:12 PM

I also think Pearl is going to make AU into a contender in that league

I think Pearl is going to struggle

Mar 15, 2015, 4:15 PM

His recruiting is going to be severely hampered by the NCAA basically waiting for him to mess up again.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Its going to be interesting soon for Aubie basketball....

Mar 15, 2015, 4:24 PM

Pearl certainly over-achieved with what he had to work with (much less than what Frank Martin had to train)....Brucie got some headlines with Auburn's end of the season play and their performance in their Tourney.....if he can latch on to a couple of good ones, I think he might just make a run at the SEC's upper 3-4 teams......but all the praise for Pearl's performance this year does have to be tempered with the acknowledgement that the SEC is just barely mediocre as a conference....and thats not to say Kentucky ISN'T the best team in the country--they probably are---just saying that making a move up the SEC ladder into elite land is not the same degree of difficulty as other places

Mar 16, 2015, 10:27 AM

SEC in basketball...you can be ok and get there...no one is going to knock Kentucky off that throne for long...Florida had a run. Auburn could be top 4 in that league and still not be a really good team.

Re: For Kentucky to win the SEC championship

Mar 15, 2015, 4:21 PM

You sound like a coot during football season.

They beat Kansas by 32, both Texas and UNC by double figures and won at Louisville by 8.

Yes the SEC is bad but that doesn't mean Kentucky isn't by far the best team in the country because they are.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Please post where I say

Mar 15, 2015, 4:26 PM

Kentucky isn't the best team in the nation. I'll wait patiently. Clemson played more ranked team in their conference than UK played all season. That's just a fact. Clemson defeated the team the UK just played in the SEC Championship game. That is also a fact. I think Kentucky is the best team in the NCAA, but I don't think they go undefeated in a better conference. Let's see them play UNC, Duke, UVA, and Louisville or Wisconsin, Michigan St., Ohio St, Indiana and Purdue. Heck I'de even take Texas, Baylor, and West Virginia over the SEC.

Mar 16, 2015, 10:22 AM

years ago....a couple of very good teams and the rest aren't very good at all. I watched some of the SEC games this year...it was painful....LSU vs Ole Miss.....Ole Miss vs Miss St....Auburn vs Miss St.....GA vs SC....Tenn vs Vandy...my goodness I must have been bored. Horrible basketball.
