As long as he figures out how to beat the coots, I hope he stays here 20 years.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Very very excited.....

very very proud to hear this.

Morris is a lot like Dabo...

Aug 27, 2013, 3:21 PM

he took his lumps in Texas HS football, and almost mailed it in. When he was hired at Tulsa, it was just the right fit for him.

Don't bank on him leaving after this year, especially if it's not a "homerun" job, such as Texas.

and I think Texas isnt going to hire a first time head coach

Re: Morris is a lot like Dabo...

Aug 27, 2013, 3:25 PM

If the Tigers run the table and get to Pasadena, they'll hire him. I have no doubt about that.

Re: and did he get the job???? NO

Aug 27, 2013, 5:57 PM

that was window dressing like all HCIW are

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-74tiger.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The job was his, he left for somewhere else before

Aug 27, 2013, 8:03 PM

Mack Brown retired. He also had a huge buyout in his contract if Texas were to renig and he had to pay a buyout, albeit not as big, to go to Florida. Texas wouldn't have gone to those lengths as window dressing. Jimbo Fisher also says hi in regards to your window dressing statement.

Yeah and how good is Jim Bo? NOT

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: The job was his, he left for somewhere else before

Aug 28, 2013, 9:56 AM

But that doesn't mean that others may not be. Look at what Muschamp has done in two years at Florida.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: and did he get the job???? NO

Aug 28, 2013, 9:58 AM [ in reply to Re: and did he get the job???? NO ]

I don't think it was window dressing. On top of that, while Texas didn't hire a "first time HC", Florida did and they're just as big of a program as Texas.

I wouldn't be surprised whatsoever if Texas were to hire a first time HC if they believed in him.

Regardless, I think it's a year for us to cheer on the Longhorns because if they were to come knocking, that would be considered a "very, very special opportunity" by just about anybody.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"took his lumps"? What a clueless statement. Really?***

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

do you know his story?

Aug 27, 2013, 3:31 PM

he took his lumps and almost quit coaching football... he wasn't sustaining success at a school that had been VERY successfull.

He took his entire staff to meet with Gus Malzhan, when he was still in HS football in Ark.

They sold out to the system, and put all their chips into it. It was COMPLETELY different than anything his guys, or local fans were used to.

The rest is history.

Aug 27, 2013, 3:42 PM [ in reply to do you know his story? ]

necessary; being willing to is the difference. That's not "selling out". It's called innovation. State Championships aren't "lumps" and local fans want wins, not "systems".

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What are you talking about?

Aug 27, 2013, 3:44 PM

He went 7-5 at a place that was used to 11-1 every year. He was miserable. His wife told him to either quit, or fix it.

That's when he visited Malzhan.

He completely overhauled a system in TX HS football, without knowing if it would work. If he had gone 7-5 that first year with the new system, he would have been gone before he even got to the 5th loss.

But he won the state championship.

Not sure why you're so jaded...

His mind may change in the future, but people aren't gullible for being happy about what they hear when Chad says something like this. He didn't have to make any in-depth statement about his future plans. This isn't May or April where reporters are going to continuously ask about this sort of things. We're three days before one of the biggest games in the history of the program, so almost anything he said about his future would simply fly over everyone's head since right now everyone's mind is on Georgia.

Does that mean he won't change his mind in the future and perhaps take a HC job at a crummy school? Absolutely not. But it's nice to know he likes it here.

Regardless, it's not necessary for you to talk down to everyone here like they're a bunch of children gawking at a puppet show.

I guess he had several "very, very special opportunities" last year? I don't buy that business of "I just wanted to interview for experience". If the right amount of money was pushed across the table, he would have been gone,as would any coach. School loyalty is the domain of the fan base, not the coaches. Besides, if he's not really interested, why would he knowingly put a damper on recruiting at that time? Gimme a break!
