Flowe was told by Dabo that there was no longer a scholarship available for a LB after Simpson's commitment. They tried to get at least a silent guarantee prior to offering Simpson, but Flowe was unwilling to do that, so they went with Simpson to avoid losing them both if Flowe opted for Oregon. Read Paul Strelow's TI article yesterday if you need confirmation on this. We are no longer tracking Flowe's recruitment.

there is a good and likely chance Flowe would have stayed on the west coast come signing day. Then we would feel foolish for not getting this amazing five star out of North Carolina. Check out the heel board, they wanted him badly. Flowe wanted to make an announcement without anyone knowing where he was going and you can't blame him for that. But our coaches must have had a feeling also. Credit Flowe for not falsely giving a silent and then flipping with a surprise announcement. At least he was good enough to say no I really can't give a silent.
But this kid that paid his own money to go see the ACCCG and really wanted to be a Clemson Tiger is a great 5 star get.

I can summarize... lots of p!ssing and moaning about how he was #1 for them and our “second choice”. Not true, of course. He was committed to Auburn and we told Flowe we were holding a scholarship for him to allow him to decide. Simpson wanted in bad enough that the staff was convinced he was going to be a “110%er”. Time ran out for Flowe. That’s all there is, but Tarheel fans can’t see that.

I don't understand why they would not at least give a silent commit to a school. Waiting until the last minute seems disrespectful. Football is a TEAM sport.
