Samsung - 6500 steps
google fit - 5900 steps.

i'm assuming both are using the same internals from the phone but ok

nope, most of the time they are different. There are about 4 different ways for the accelerometer to grab the data. Some are 2 axis, some are 3. But really its the engineering algorithm, plus the 3 axis that will make for the best. Garmin and Samsung are light years ahead of everyone else.
