it was a California only chain? It's still only in 5 Southwestern states now. The Texas restaurants are a recent addition. Lived in CA for a year and tried several different In and Out locations. Wasn't impressed.

Shake Shack up north.....believe the most southern one is in DC. Philly and NYC have them......they trump all. And I am from Charleston so no northern bias from me even though I live up north now.

that's been expanding in the Northeast for a while. Shakes are awesome and so are the frings ( fries mixed with onion rings ). Only SC location is in Bluffton.

I wasn't impressed with In & Out the first few times, but it became my favorite. Whataburger was good the first few times but got where I didn't really care for it.

Cookout has a good thing going...I aint mad...yet.
And I know the typical response would be "No way! Wataburger is SOOOOOOOO much better than Cookout."

We have a WhataBurger here in West Columbia. Dang good burger too. Much more like an old timey burger than the other national chains.

According to Whataburger's website, there are no locations in North or South Carolina. Google search reveals at least a couple.
