Could a new political party emerge from all of this?

Nov 15, 2020, 7:37 PM

I can see a scenario where Trump never formally concedes, and continues holding rallies over the next 4 years like nothing's changed. He will continue with the nonsense about the election being stolen, and this will fire up a significant number of his republican base. At the same time, many republicans who voted for him will have had enough of this and be ready to seek a new direction for opposition to democrat progressivism going forward. Trump will have none of that, of course, and if he gets the cold shoulder from the party and can't maintain enough support to force his agenda, I can see him running as an independent or 3rd party. Of course, Dems have their own internal struggles determining party direction and leadership going forward. It should be an interesting 4 years as far as all of that goes. We may never get back to "normal".

Socially Liberal.
Fiscally Conservative.

If people would stop toting the R or D line, they’d find the party most aligned with their views is Libertarians.

Sure he could. And it would easily destroy the country.

He has all the requisite parts, fueled mainly by a cult-like base that will write the checks when he asks for them. He only needs to steadily chip away at the foundation of our democracy, challenge every fact, every institution, and cast doubt on every bit of present day reality. He has installed willing accomplishes at all levels of government and media, and people appear to be willing to give him the money he needs to go down this road.

It’s going be a long national nightmare that will haunt us for generations.

smiling,

I don't think we will get a third party, but the dichotomies that you point out in both parties are going to be interesting to watch.
