FSU Coaching Search

Dec 3, 2019, 9:52 AM

Latest seems that FSU was swung and missed on all their main targets (Stoops, Franklin, Campbell) and right now everything is pointing to Norvell and nothing will become official until after this weekend due to Memphis having a game on Saturday.

Thoughts on Norvell hire? Not sure I see this as much of an upgrade to Taggart. Seems FSU truly is a dumpster fire if they have to go down to choice #4 to find someone.

Another thing I see about Norvell is that all of his experience is in the mid west and west. Doubt he has any ties to the southeast. Recruiting will be a challenge.

Campbell met with his team on Monday night and told them he was not leaving. I saw this on 247 FSU forum.

Well, Campbell just signed an extension with Iowa State so seems the resident siminole is not as well informed as he believes

Norvell was an assistant and coordinator forever. Head coach last three years at Nevada with an 18-19 record. Highlight was beating Arizona last year in the Arizona Bowl. FSPU is getting desperate.

Gotcha. Mike has done a better job than Jay. But I still wonder about recruiting, since neither seems to have many connections to the southeast. Not a terrible hire, but, as I was fooled by the last name, I'm sure many other folks are not aware of who Mike (or Jay) is.

31 days and counting. No head coach and signing day is fast approaching.

I said it right after Taggart got canned.
Don't hire a big-name coach. Grab an up and coming Offensive coordinator, let him hire/retain whatever coaches he needs or wants(some might need A.D approval), give him 5 years(+ an option to show improvements if needed), have a reasonable buyout(you don't need one with somebody new)let him recruit, and let him coach.
The first 3 years should be a learning curve, year 4 should start to show benefits, and 5 years should be the breakout year. But after 6 it's time to put up or move on.

If all of this is true, it reminds me of what happened at UT when Mack left. Several guys turned them down and their 5th choice was Charlie Strong.

That did not turn out well at all.

Not looking good for FSU. Might want to give in to whatever "ridiculous demands" Bob Stoops was making.
