Those cheatin' bastige vols......even after the NCAA agreed that Tenn had cheated, they declined to change the outcome.

I have no way of knowing, of course, but I hope that particular officiating crew never worked another college football game

Travis Zachary deserves a mention

Posted: May 28, 2014 4:34 PM

He was a really good receiver and a solid runner. We just didnt have the OL and overall talent for him to shine more.

Re: Travis Zachary deserves a mention

Posted: May 28, 2014 4:35 PM

the guy had a real nose for the end zone and the reefer unfortunately

badge-donor-05yr.jpg

Zachary got booted selling weed too but his career

Posted: May 28, 2014 9:07 PM

Was still solid. Great short range receiver out the backfield too.

Zachary was not in the same league as any of those guys

I agree with the names on your list but differ a great deal on the order.

If you told me that I could choose one and only one running back to build my team around, it would be Terry Allen. I think he is by far the best pure running back we ever had.

As far as an overachiever, there has never been a Tiger like Raymond Priester. He made more yards on strength and second effort than anyone.

I think CJ Spiller was the most electrifying runner we have ever had, but a lot of his production was in roles other than a pure running back.

My Top-5 are Allen, Priester, Spiller, Ellington, Flowers ... not a big enough fan of James Davis to have him in the Top-5.

flowers may have been the baddest a$$ of them all.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg

I actually like this list a lot

Posted: May 28, 2014 6:10 PM

better than OP's. JD was not a top 5 RB at Clemson. CJ was the most exciting RB to watch, but like you said, not the best true RB.

I would take your top 5 and go Allen, Flowers, Priester, Spiller, Ellington.

All of those guys are great though.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg

You nailed the order for top 5***

work for us.

Quit Reading when Allen wasn't #1

Or at least I always thought the term running back was for both HB and FB.

My list

Posted: May 28, 2014 4:54 PM

Can't see putting Priester #2. Great back, and Clemson's all time leader. But probably more so because of his carries #.

I would go....

#1-CJ Spiller
#2-Terry Allen
#3-Kenny Flowers
#4-James Davis
#5-Terrence Flagler
#6-Ronald Williams
#7-Raymond Priester
#8-Reggie Merriweather
#9-Andre Ellington
#10-Rodney Blunt/Zachery

Chances some over the years IMO
#21

favorite Tigers. I feel like he gets overlooked because he was either overshadowed by CJ or had an O-line that couldn't block for him.

This is the closest imo swap 4 and 6 and move 9 to 7***

In Raleigh ? I was there with my dad in the late 70's. Lester Brown got em.

A great list, but maybe just for me....

Posted: May 28, 2014 7:40 PM

I'd have Terry Allen as a very close 1a just behind Ceej, all the rest are tied for 2nd.

Man! The memories. All of these guys are great. I remember the pre-1970 guys, too. As a kid, I thought that there could not possibly be anything cooler than to be the starting running back at Clemson. I still feel that way.

Buddy Gore and Ray Yauger were pretty good!***

I mean Emory. Coulda been Herschel had that new Trans Am not made it to his driveway compliments from THUGA.

Allen #1. I'll throw in Wesley McFadden and whoever that small back was running wild on West Virginia in the Gator Bowl.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg

Terry Allen leaps and bounds ahead...

Posted: May 29, 2014 12:48 AM

Of Priester and possibly Davis. He struggled with injury and left early. He would have destroyed their stats with a full four-year healthy career.

Excellent call on Chuck. He's never mentioned. Most underrated player in our history.

Priester or Davis with Allen's OL?***

Reggie Merriweather should be honorable mention

Posted: May 29, 2014 8:24 AM

If Tommy bowden played him like he should of been played then he could of been on this list. Definitely one of my favorites

Cliff Austin and Lester Brown?

They were pretty special Running Backs

at #7. As for Brown, he was solid but not top 10 worthy. He had decent speed and ran hard and held onto the ball, but was kinda small and pretty much ran in a straight line until he got hit and the play was over. He was the best all-around back we had at a time when we didn't have great RBs but benefited from a hard-nosed running style offense and a good OL.
