My thoughts on the number of bowl games...

For people who say there are too many bowls, are you required to watch them? I don't watch "reality" tv and I'm a football fan, so I like the fact that there are games on throughout the Christmas season. You don't have to watch them if you don't like them. And when it comes to the integrity of the bowls, unless you're in the playoff (or previously a BCS game), it's really just an exhibition game anyway.

Lots of these players get to travel for the first time in their lives, go to events, and for the seniors, it's a chance to play one more game and be with their friends as a teammate. Also, some of the best played games are the throwaway games like these bowls.

trip to Hawaii. Sure, it would be a major drain for most fans to get out there. You want a decent crowd for the biggest games. Still seems like a great reward for being average.

Just say "thanks ESPN."

eliminating even 1/2 of these bowls would make getting to a bowl at least a little bit more meaningful. I get the counter argument, that they make money, good for the schools, et cetera, but I think the biggest thing is that people actually watch these meaningless bowls.

I don't have the stat handy, but I think more people watched the New Mexico bowl last year then a pretty prime NBA game that was on head-to-head. The ratings these minor bowl draw is surprising.

Never even thought that having mediocre content on a time frame where a lot of people are on vacation would pay back any direct losses in more subscriber fees etc.
