Whoever wins should have exclusive rights to the flag stylized in their colors for the year.

My trophy idea

Nov 26, 2014, 1:27 PM

My idea: install a steel palmetto tree statue on each campus, and an empty holder for a the crescent. The winning school gets the crescent and can put it with their palmetto statue for the year.

I told my wife long ago that I wouldn't feel like this idea was being taken seriously until someone tried to boost credit for it.

Today, that has finally happened. My day is made.

Thanks to anyone who still remembers or has fondness for my little blog post from years ago. It's really gratifying to see it pop up on the boards every now and again.

(and thanks for having my back, joeyblack)

Re: If you think the state name "sucks" you either are not

Nov 27, 2014, 4:17 AM

I lived in SC from the 5th grade through shortly after I graduated from Clemson. I am completely aware of the history of the palmetto tree, but never thought it was a good name for the state. One reason is the tree doesn't grow naturally in most of the state and the ones you see are ornamental having been planted for that purpose. Having said that, I think many states have lame state names, like tarheel for example.

Re: FB Update: Clemson-SC game has an official name

Nov 27, 2014, 1:53 AM

The people that has absolutely nothing to DO but sit around thinking about how to rename something or change something. They can name this game what ever they please. But they will never change the meaning or what its called to me. It still is and will always be the coot game for me!!! For a hundred and something years, the coot game had always been kinda meaningless. The past 5 years of this game has finally added some meaning to the game for us, but nothing so special that it deserves a special name or a title other than just the coot game... The people in and around cootlumbia never thought that it was worthy of a title before the past five years. Now that they have won a few, they now want to pin state championship to this game. If this is what they really want to do, then include in their description who has dominated the Palmetto State Bowl Championship game. Changing the name doesn't in any way change the over all record just because they have won 5 straight, and the record doesn't now become 5/0 as they would hope for everyone to see it with a name change of the game. We may have to go back a ways to see it, but Clemson still holds that record of 7 straight. If it really happened, its still a fact!!!
