your customer or potential customer out should be your number 1 priority, and if you do that, the money will come. I'm not so sure that's the case anymore. A lot of people DGAF about a personal relationship, what you've done for them now or in the past, or anything really.
You'll bend over backwards for someone to meet their budget, go above and beyond what you need to do for them...But after it's all said and done, after you've made little to no money and the customer has gotten exactly what they want, they won't so much as nod at you in traffic.
I've gone on some calls with older guys in my industry, and just been appalled at how they'll talk and treat to potential customers. But people will waste the shid out of your time, so I'm starting to understand where they're coming from I think.
