Edgars, the on-campus lounge.

I was at Clemson the entire calendar years of '82-'84. I used to go to Edgars on occasion. During one summer session, a group of students would show up there about 5pm to watch re-runs of the original Star Trek TV series. During the intro to Star Trek, when the USS Enterprise would come out of deep space and zip by the "camera," everybody would make gear shifting noises and make the Doppler shift sound effect as it zipped by. It was hilarious. Right after the intro, over half the people would leave and go to Harcombe Dining Hall. I saw the Charleston group "The Killer Whales" there twice. They actually carried pretty good beer...not just the yellow usual suspects.
Does anyone have any photos of Edgars?

playing.
They did a song called "calculator".
The entire lyrics of the song were: "I am the operator of my pocket calculator"
We didn't stay long.
Why I remember this is beyond me.

Cell phones were as futuristic as Star Trek then.
That was the feeble joke. . . .

Take $10 in there and you could play pool for an hour and get drunk.

Well, one of the two I know. The one that graduated high school with me and ended up dropping out of Clemson got electrocuted and died working as an electrician.

Didn't Edgar's serve Newcastle Brown Ale in the bottle?

I think(?) that that is what I drank most of the time there. My college years is when I started breaking away from the usual suspect yellow fizzy beer...which has led me down the path of beer snobbery such as:
Chimay (Blue Label) Grand Reserve Rochefort 10 Tripel Karmeliet Duchesse De Bourgogne Fullers London Porter BJ’s PM Porter Founders CBS (Canadian Breakfast Stout) Young’s Double Chocolate Stout Firestone Walker Parabola Vintage Barrel Aged Imperial Stout Firestone Walker Velvet Merkin Oatmeal Stout Firestone Walker Cherry Barrel Blossom Imperial Smoked Porter Schneider Weisse Aventinus Eisboch Ayinger Celebrator
