Feb 28, 2017, 4:07 PM

Which one do you choose based strictly on their COLLEGE career ?

Bubba Brown - 5'11" 222 lbs
Keith Adams - 5'11" 223 lbs
Ben Boulware - 6'0" 235 lbs
Ed McDaniel - 5'11" 234 lbs
Leroy Hill - 6'1" 238 lbs
Doug Brewster - 6'1" 220 lbs

... other (who?)

than any of those when he played, I'm pretty sure.

Simmons was like 6'1 240. He was pretty stout and good size for a LB.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He was under 200 lbs when he got here, and the heaviest

Feb 28, 2017, 5:00 PM

he was ever listed was 225, which may have been a stretch. He was extremely fast (one of the fastest 40 times on the team as well as I can remember) and on the small side for a college LB.

Keith Adams is by far the best!! He was all over the field. Simmons was great, but Adams was a real hitter.

Go Tigers!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Everybody has an opinion.

Feb 28, 2017, 5:29 PM

I loved Adams and agree that he was a great one, but I don't remember another Clemson LB that was as disruptive and difficult to block as Anthony Simmons, and that includes Larry Hefner, Jeff Davis, Levon Kirkland, Bubba Brown, Ed McDaniel, Ben Boulware, Stephone Anthony, etc.. It seemed like he was in on ever single play (much like Adams at times).

I'd take either one when all is said and done.

but he and Adams were about the same weight, with Adams being a little shorter and stockier.

Anthony Simmons didn't "over-achieve" ... he was

Feb 28, 2017, 7:33 PM [ in reply to Clemson's greatest LB ever was smaller ]

He was highly recruited and projected to be a super star from the moment he hit campus.

I didn't include Simmons on the list because even though he was perhaps a bit light when he got to Clemson, he was tremendously fast. He would have been a 5-star recruit today.

I was looking for the little guys who were a bit slow, but made up for their shortcomings with grit, determination and toughness, etc.

I agree with you. He doesn't belong on the list. He was over six feet and highly recruited. What true freshman lb wouldn't be light?

Re: Best under-sized, over-achieving Clemson LB ever? Which one

Feb 28, 2017, 4:23 PM

McDaniel. He had a lot of good players around him, but he still led the team in tackles, and was the QB of the defense. I think he likely had the best NFL career of the group including a pro bowl.
