Easy fix to faking injury...

Sep 2, 2013, 2:20 PM

... if you are injured, you sit out either 4 snaps or the entire series. This would no doubt penalize players and teams that are actually hurt and can return, but it would also eliminate cheating in this area. I'm okay with that.

yep. I think if you stop the game you are penalized for the series.

That's the easiest to track probably as opposed to number of

plays. Also, it should be in an injured player's best interest to take a series off in order to ensure a full medical assessment. This of course is only when there's an official stoppage in play on the field as a result.

I love your solution. It's the perfect answer to the problem. I vote for the entire series.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Good idea because if you are injured enough to stop play

Sep 2, 2013, 2:40 PM

then you probably need a few plays off.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It still worries me that...

Sep 2, 2013, 2:41 PM

the players who are really hurt might try to hang in there and do more damage.

How about a one play penalty for every 'X' seconds the clock is stopped?

Nah, they'll just sub in Scrubby McScrubberson for a play,

Sep 2, 2013, 2:42 PM

and use him to fall down.

Re: Nah, they'll just sub in Scrubby McScrubberson for a play,

Sep 2, 2013, 2:44 PM

I have pointed that out before..it will come down to the honesty and integrity of the head coach and all of us know what that equals in the SEC... none!!!!

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

With a due respect to Scrubby McScrubberson, as DC I don't

Sep 2, 2013, 2:49 PM [ in reply to Nah, they'll just sub in Scrubby McScrubberson for a play, ]

want 10 players against this offense. A touchdown makes it a mute point.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

One play, 3rd string guy or whatever. A few plays out, etc

Sep 2, 2013, 2:53 PM

Not that big of a deal if slowing down the game is the intention. By your premise, by faking the injury they are are choosing to sit the starter out for a play anyway.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

A few plays with scrubs could result in a TD

Sep 2, 2013, 2:58 PM

We would have played against a full team of scrubs against LSU.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He doesn't mean scrub scrun but not the starter. Not every

Sep 2, 2013, 3:01 PM

starter plays every play. 2nd & 3rd string guys get snaps too. Players are always rotating in & out.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Um, it's not a "few" plays and it's not a "few" scrubs.

Sep 2, 2013, 3:02 PM [ in reply to A few plays with scrubs could result in a TD ]

You send in a backup for one play. Said backup falls down to stop the game. Backup leaves the game for x plays. Starter is back in after one play. That's how you beat the proposed method.

I'm not sure what you mean?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

agree***

must sit out the next 15 minutes

of the game and this carries over to the next game if necessary

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

ALSO - NO substitutes except for the injured player.

Sep 2, 2013, 2:52 PM

I am not concerned about a player that is really injured because anyone that stays down on the field is really hurt and can not hide it. If the officials see a hurt player they will stop play and send them off. It is really not hard to fix without jeopardizing safety.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Won't work. They'll have some reserve fake the injury. What

Sep 2, 2013, 2:59 PM

you do is ...

1. If a players gets hurt he sits out the rest of that series. Call it "safety of the player" rule.

2. Review the film after the game and any player seen faking, they get suspended for the next game.

3. The NCAA warns teams not to do it again. After that, each incident will cost you a scholarship next year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I feel dirty, but I agree with LowcountryCaddy.***

Sep 2, 2013, 3:03 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm not so sure that a coach would put in a reserve player

Sep 2, 2013, 3:09 PM [ in reply to Won't work. They'll have some reserve fake the injury. What ]

on any play just for this. Reserve players have a tendency to get immediately targeted and exploited when in the game.

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Doesn't have to be a "reserve player".***

Re: Easy fix to faking injury...

Sep 2, 2013, 3:12 PM

Agreed! A kid can take himself out on his own by getting the attention of his coach without "crying wolf" and stopping the whole game.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think you're on to something

Sep 2, 2013, 3:59 PM

After all, if your helmet flies off you have to sit for a play. Which is kind of dumb. But if you're really hurt, you're probably really going to have to sit out for a few plays anyway.
