Dye's Running Style

Nov 25, 2014, 3:47 PM

I have not seen any of the last couple games, Who does Dye remind you of ?

James Davis - Very downhill***

Thats a hard one. He puts his head down and lowers his pads and drives through the line. He doesn't dance around like some guys.

Well, speaking of: Marcus Lattimore...

I mean a two-legged Marcus Lattimore.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My first impression was 'Gurley.'

Nov 25, 2014, 3:55 PM

I know it was against a second or third class defense but he hit the holes right and was fast to boot.

He appears to find a hole a lot easier and go north and

Nov 25, 2014, 3:58 PM

south...not a lot of dancing. During the Ga St. game when they were going to commercials, they'd show slow motion Dye running the ball and absolutely punishing a few Ga St. players. Now, I'm a little hesitant to get too excited b/c it IS Ga St...but, it's evident from his style of running that there is no hesitation...not a lot of waiting for someone to block but more of finding an already existing hole and punishing whoever show up in that game. He seems to go forward after contact too.

All that said, I think USuCk's secondary is more talented, but still a bit undersized so Dye may still have a great deal of success against them.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You do realize that Gallman and Howard were running against

Nov 25, 2014, 6:21 PM

that same Georgia State team. Did you see a difference? He made the O line look like they were actually blocking.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I've said that multiple times...

http://www.tigernet.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=16349337#16349337

I saw a difference indeed. I think Dye has better vision. I was impressed with one of Gallman's TD runs though...he didn't go down easily. As far as the other backs, I wasn't that impressed. Dye consistently picked up substantial yardage.

But I'm still going to temper my expectations. I've have not forgotten that our rushing attack has been horrid for most of the season. Maybe it's because of a few Olineman injured AND the lack of Dye...maybe with both back, a drastic difference will be seen. Still, I wouldn't expect for Dye to have 150+ yard game though USuCk's second level is somewhat undersized...

DeMarco Murray for Dallas

Almost identical running style as Isaiah Crowell

Nov 25, 2014, 4:09 PM

Big power back who faces you head on, but is extremely fluid with his cuts and change of direction. Deceptively shifty and elusive, but doesn't rely on those traits as his primary means for picking up yards.

Re: Dye's Running Style

Nov 25, 2014, 4:11 PM

I'm just a fan (i.e. not qualified to know what makes a good RB) but it was shocking seeing his acceleration toward the line / blockers. As soon as he got the ball secured, he looked like he was then shot out of a cannon.

So if the O- line makes a small gap, it looks like defenders don't have a chance to come off their blocks to tackle him because hes through the line in a flash.

(Hey, maybe "The FLASH" would be a good nickname)

Terry Allen

Re: Terry Allen

Nov 25, 2014, 4:40 PM

That might be a pretty good choice, but I haven't seen him cut back across the field yet. I always felt like Allen and Ronald Williams were the best at finding that seam after they had gotten through the line.

Not quite as fast.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Todd Gurley :)

Nov 25, 2014, 4:56 PM

His style is actually more reminiscent of Todd Gurley's running style than anyone I've seen thus far. They both have track speed and the same body build as well. If Dye stays healthy he will dominate next season. Great running backs don't always have a dominant OL, they just have that same vision Dye has to get through that crease in a hurry.

James Davis was a beast! We need to upgrade our running back talent. He didn't have a great line either.
