Ya ever notice, in the opening of "Gunsmoke", where he drew on the bad guy? Matt was always slow. The bad guy fired first. I guess Matt was just cooler under pressure and had a steady aim.

Considering both The Duke and U.S. Marshal Matt Dillon were both good guys, they would not fight one another.
Here's a bit of trivia for you: Did you know John Wayne was initially offered the role of Marshal Matt Dillon for Gunsmoke but he turned it down so it went to Arness?

at 6-7 he was always the tallest guy in his platoon or regiment or whatever in WW 2. On landing craft, like D-Day, he was the guy to jump off first to see how deep the water was. Ever notice how small the horses look when he comes riding up on one? He's so big they look like ponies. We noticed that even as kids watching Gunsmoke... dang, that dude is HUGE.

Yep he was badly wounded in the war and always had a limp after he recovered.....Believe that is why Chester pretended to have a bad leg to take away from the fact James Arness had a limp in real life......Go Tigers!!!!

It wouldn’t help him, Wayne wouldn’t know which end of the bazooka to load. Actually, I’d take Audie Murphy over either of them in a gunfight. Murphy also fought at Anzio.
