"Double Elimination" regionals?

Jun 4, 2017, 9:55 AM

I'm not sure if this topic has already been discussed so excuse me if it has:

I always thought that NCAA post-season baseball tourneys are true double elimination foremats. The way I read the brackets the "winner" of the winners bracket doesn't have the same benefit of having the luxury of losing two games as the other three teams have had that face them in the final game.

In every baseball tourney I played in as a kid, if we made it through the winners bracket, someone would have to beat us twice to advance. I know the NCAA regionals used to be run in this fashion. When did this change? Why did it change?

It seems to me this new format is unfair to the winner of the winners bracket. I said yesterday if we would have won last night that it would be unfair to us because if we slip-up in the final game we don't get a second game. In our current situation, I guess it works somewhat to our advantage since if we can beat UNC-G today, perhaps we can get by Vandy tonight and advance.

Am I correct in this?

We have to beat vandy twice to advance. We need to win 3 straight games now.

It is a double elimination tournament...

If Clemson beats UNCG this afternoon, and manages to get past Vandy tonight, the two teams will meet again Monday night for the Regional championship and a spot in the Super Regionals.

Thanks. ESPN seems to indicate that tonight's games are "Finals". Probably just trying to push viewership in prime-time tonight.

It's is the Regional Final...

If Vandy wins, it's over.

If Vandy loses, then we play another Regional Final tomorrow night.

It's true double elimination.

the way you remember it is correct but I do think in Omaha once you get to the championship game series is best two of three but I could be wrong there
