Does being called a Tater really bother you all?

Mar 30, 2017, 9:33 PM

Was listening to a segment on 107.5 this week on a business trip to Columbia, and they asked their callers which non-curse word bothered them the most.

The most popular answer was "coot" and many callers wouldn't even say the word, referred to it as "that C word from the upstate".

So just wondering how you all feel about our derogatory nickname? It honestly doesn't bother me at all. What say you?

Serious about the segment?

Mar 30, 2017, 9:40 PM

Or the overall post?

Yes many callers answer was coot, seems they really despise the word.

Re: I STILL don't know what a 'spud barge' is, tho'.....

Apr 1, 2017, 7:41 AM

The four legs are large pipes that go through tunnels made into the barge , which secures the barge to the bottom ...keeping it stationary on site for working on . A crane or pulley system is used to raise and lower the " spuds " , which are pointed on the lower end to assist in going more easily into the mud , sand , clay , etc .

We were such a good agriculture school when we started, it almost caused coot college to be closed down.

Not all. Sounds like an endearing term. Something you call a grand kid...lil Tater (tater tot).

Coot just seems derogatory to a degree...similar to calling someone trash.

Re: Does being called a Tater really bother you all?

Mar 30, 2017, 11:20 PM

They can't come up with any word that has much impact on my life. I couldn't care less about what little stupid quips they retort. The Tater one seems way lame to me, but I guess to a lesser mind it might seem funny or cool. But then they think walking around in outfits with a chicken somewhere emblazoned on it looks good, so there you go.

Mar 31, 2017, 1:13 PM

most of us with the word "Tiger" in our screen names changed them to say "Tater" - i.e. "TigerSmith" became "TaterSmith". You could do that back then.

We had a ball with it and it royally pissed them off. Fun times.
