Does Dabos new contract pretty guarantee he won't be heading to

Apr 12, 2016, 9:16 AM

Bama should the job open? It certainly elmiminates 99% of any other job out there. To me this means he plans to be here for the long haul. Any other thoughts on this?

He wants to build his own dynasty his way, the right way. Not take over someones else and have to it their way.

Don't think Dabo was planning on leaving Clemson for Alabama.

Considering what Dabo's built (and building) at Clemson it would be hard for him to walk away. Clemson's Admin., Athletic Department, Football Program, and Fan Base are in lock step together. That's very rare at any school, especially a major University.

Clemson gives Dabo gets pretty much anything he asks for, and he's beloved by Clemson. If you can recruit like Alabama, why leave Clemson? Dabo has built his own winning brand, and he's just getting started. He's on his way to becoming a Football legend. There are a TON of coaches that would jump at the opportunity though (Patrino, etc...). Reasons to take the Alabama job when Saban retires:

1) Money.
2) Ego
3) Better job
4) Location

#1 Dabo has shown he isn't primarily motivated by $$$ (salary re-distributions to assistant coaches, etc..). #2 Dabo is humble. #3 The only thing better about the Alabama job is $$$. Bama job comes with a lot of negatives he doesn't currently have to deal with at Clemson (out-of-control boosters i.e. cheating, being the guy that replaces Saban, unrealistic institutional expectations, insane fan-base, playing in the SEC, etc....). #4 Dabo and his family love Clemson, his kids have grown up in Clemson.

You've got to think Dabo has a pretty good idea of what he'd be getting himself into. He's from Alabama, played there, and coached there. I doubt Alabama could pay him enough money to leave Clemson, quite honestly.

Dabo's building his own version of Alabama in Clemson, SC. I don't think he's looking to trade that just to become the next HC at Alabama.

I agree with everything you said, but you did leave out one

key factor. It's his alma mater and there's certainly an emotional aspect to this, and only Dabo knows just how strong that is. If it were literally any other job in the country i would say no way he leaves, but you just never know when emotions like that come into play.

I hate to think it, but I'm sure he will strongly consider it if and when that time comes and no one could blame him. Alabama is his blood. Not sure any #'s would stop bama from getting who they want either, they'll pay whatever it takes

If/When Alabama calls, he'll listen

Apr 12, 2016, 10:23 AM [ in reply to I agree with everything you said, but you did leave out one ]

That's a long way from saying that he'll go, but he'll certainly listen if/when they call. Most of his family has moved to Clemson and it's a wonderful place to live, so there will be a lot of reasons to stay. He's from Alabama and played for the Tide. Those aren't things that should be discounted.

That said, the support and freedom he's been given to build this program the right way along with quality of life for him and his family might well be much bigger factors in that decision making process. Dabo isn't Spurrier or Saban or Meyer or certainly Rich Rod. The ego thing won't be nearly as big a factor and neither will the money. He makes enough today to change the lives of his family for a generation.

You're absolutely correct. He's be nuts not to listen. I think people forget or underestimate Dabo's business acumen sometimes.

I really don't think it's going to be that difficult a decision for him (as it stands today).

That's true. It is his alma mater, but the list of negatives are hefty (#3).

Throwing caution to the wind, he could decide to leave. But, it sounds like he and his family are pretty emotionally invested in Clemson. I'd be very surprised if they'd pick up and leave if given a choice.

I think the business, and emotional decision favors Clemson over Alabama.

This place is split on weather Dabo will go to Bama.

I'll say one thing, if Clemson treated me the way Dabo said Bama treated him I'd say, FK Clemson and burn everything I owned that was orange.

was also a story about Saban not being ready to retire. So while any contract can be wriggled out of, if one wants to do so bad enough, I think we can plan on enjoying Dabo for a few more years at least.
