He will have to be fired. He will ride out this money train until then. Hopefully the new AD will decide enough is enough and can him.

We lost 9 in a row and still went to Omaha. Outside of seeding, what happens in March has zero bearing on the end of May.

Seeding is important

If we don't earn a national seed we have to go on the road for Supers. If we keep dropping games we should win we are on the road for the regionals. Neither is a path for advancing to Omaha.

it to Omaha. Only way we win is if we put a ton of runs on the board and even then our bullpen often finds a way to lose it.

With wanting us to pull it together this year and win the whole dang thing.
I'd argue making that sort of decision at this point is making a decision without all the data.

Hire the Coots coach. It would serve two purposes. Cause them to suck and hopefully get us back in National title contention.

That same argument

could have been used to keep Hatfield and Bowden, and would have been just as wrong then.
We have the infrastructure in place to be a dominant baseball program and we play in one of the top baseball conferences. We are in a great recruiting area and have a very good fanbase and support. There are plenty of good baseball coaches who would love to have this job if it opened up. To think otherwise is just being foolish.

Maybe

but between the way the recruiting had fell off under Hatfield and the multiple times he alienated the fanbase we probably could have tarped off at least one side of the upper deck.

My Opinon

This guy has to go... two times we should've had nat'l titles(the year we had the pitching staff benson, key, etc. And year we had the lineup baker, johnson, and nat'l P.O.Y greene) and yet we choked(think we had the top teams those years). Now he's done good things for this program from facility upgrades to finally getting someone to recruit great baseball players(lecroy),but IMHO the program overall has gone a tad stale while watching little brother win back to back nat'l titles over the past several years. I suggest that we try to get cat from UF(think his name is o'sullivan)who coached under leggett @ clemson so he knows the culture here.. far as I'm concerned I've had enough of leggett!!! GO TIGERS!!!!!

Still burns me up. That team was loaded and should have won the national title without question. 1996 I agree should have also been a title year.

a ceo type manager giving more power to the coaches! He could save his job by giving up coaching and controlling and become like most managers - relaxed and seeing the whole game instead of narrow 3rd base vision! If he does not do that, then I would hope he would retire, however if he still refuses, he could be fired as a coach and given administrative duties around the baseball operations.

You hit the nail on the head brother ! Jack has got to be on the field, he just want have it any other way. For as long as I live, I will never forget Leggett running stride for stride down the 3rd baseline with one of your players trying to score. The player got thrown out at the plate. But all I remember was the look on his face. His screws are to tight.
