Do you think it's smart for FSU/Bama to play 1st game?

Jan 17, 2017, 9:32 AM

I enjoy it as a fan, but I think it's idiotic if your goal is making the playoff.

The loser of that game cannot afford another mistake throughout the entire 11 weeks of the season. I think it just puts too much pressure on a program.

Don't give me the whole "To be the best, you have to beat the best" argument. Yes, you have to beat the best, but you can beat them in the playoff. You don't have to do it the 1st game of the season.

Very smart. Works out well for Bama yearly. Makes both

Yes

For Fsu it is a good idea. Without Bama in the kickoff they are relegated to ULM, Delaware St, and Florida for out of conference.

Bama has always participated in these and it has worked out well for them.

remember bama will survive 2 loss season - heck the talking

Jan 17, 2017, 9:41 AM

Heads may even allow bama 3 losses. Remember USC was
In the conversation late with 3 early losses.. For sure bama will have a way even with early 2 or 3 losses

FSU can play Bama the first game every year. I prefer to end the season beating them. Go Tigers. 2016 National Champions.

Re: Do you think it's smart for FSU/Bama to play 1st game?

Jan 17, 2017, 10:09 AM

Yes and No. Yes, because if you win it's a little leg up on everyone else. Yes, because if you're going to play a great program, you probably want to catch them early, before they've worked all the kinks out. No, because if you lose then you're in a bit of a hole.

I think this particular game is advantage Bama. Bama's sledgehammer offense looks easier to master than what FSU does. FSU having to replace Dalvin Cook is also a big deal.

If FSU does win, the idiots on TV will be talking about whether Saban's time has passed, before the game has ended.

FSU is gonna need to be successful passing. That's pretty rare early in the season.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You underestimate what Bama lost on defense

Jan 17, 2017, 10:12 AM

Their DL was already thin and they lost a lot on that defense this year. There's no guarantee that Bama's D will be better than FSU's O.

My point is Bama is not on our schedule and will have the inside track to make the playoffs because the play in a weak SECheat. So even if the lose to FSU the worse they will drop is to #4. IF we end up beating them at the end of the season that means we are back in the playoffs for the 3rd straight year. Go Tigers, 2016 National Champions.

Why does Bama never play "true road games" outside SEC ?***

Ask Bob Stoops what he thinks about it.

Jan 17, 2017, 10:16 AM

I think he'd say the loss to OSU last year eliminated them from the CFP. It also took the entire conference down. If FSU and Bama win their conferences there's the likelihood that the loser will eliminate his conference from the final four.

Oklahoma loss to Houston is what kept them from the playoffs. had they beaten Houston then they would have only 1 loss to OSU and won their conference putting them ahead of OSU. Even with the loss to OSU near the beginning of the season. With the game being at the beginning of the season if the loser does end up winning the rest of their games they will be in the playoffs. Go Tigers

Doubtful. I think the loser, if close, could still lose again and get in if they win their conference. Depends on how both teams finish the year and how many undefeated teams there are. I like it and if I were a FSU fan I would love the challenge. I like that we play Auburn.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

what I am hoping for is can WE play fsu early in the season?

Jan 17, 2017, 10:17 AM

we need that game early not late i think

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Smart for espn. I dont imagine Fsu or bama

Jan 17, 2017, 10:18 AM

Would prefer the game.

Expect auburn to make it into top 15, maybe top 10 to promote the clemson game.

For FSU yes, Bama could play HS teams and still be #1 so not

Jan 17, 2017, 10:30 AM

sure how they benefit - although they could lose to FSU drop to #2 for a couple of weeks then be back at #1 whether FSU loses or not once they beat an over rated SEC team.

The only other time that would be better for both teams is to play Jan. 2018 for the national championship. Yes, its a good time. Better to have a loss early than late.

YES!

Jan 17, 2017, 3:44 PM

Even the loser can climb back into playoff picture if they win their conference. Of course the committee will make sure they don't meet in the first round if both make it back.

I like FSU's chances. Francouis (sp?) seems to have a bigger upside than Alabana's QB. Plus Sark may have fallen off the wagon by then.

Re: Do you think it's smart for FSU/Bama to play 1st game?

Jan 17, 2017, 4:57 PM

Yea it's smart. This ain't comparable to OSU/UH because UH wasn't expected to be good. These are two heavyweights about to go head to head week one and the BCS polls wouldn't have cared but the CFP committee will certainly take notice of their willingness to play each other. If either team loses in a close game they are still in very good shape.
