You have to study the bar graph. Clemson's problem is not that we don't have African Americans because that bar is larger than many other schools on the list that are ahead of us. The problem Clemson has is that we don't have many Asians and Hispanics. And quite frankly, you would assume that we wouldn't. I would also like to point out that Clemson is: #1 - difficult to get into, #2 - relatively expensive for a public university, and #3 - in a rural area rather than a city.

Clemson can only accept who applies.

A more interesting story would be a large discrepancy in the diversity of applicants versus the diversity of accepted students.

Would be interesting to see the % of Hispanic/Asian applications that are received. My guess is South Eastern schools (minus FL) generally are lower in these demographics based on regional population.
Now it is interesting to note that the % of Black students is in the same range if not greater than 90% of the schools listed. While it would be great if this number was larger based on south eastern population distribution it seems to be about average.

Cali and Texs schools have many hispanic students apply based on demographics. I mean they are hispanic in blood but most of the time they are just as American assay white kid. So should that really count towards diversity numbers?

It looks to include all universities in the United States. We rank 98th in the country which isn't great by any means but not as bad as you make it seem. It doesn't say out of how many schools.

probably should blame the confederate flag for this too. I've never had any use for it since it pulled the trigger and killed those people in Charleston.

I think race

Should be removed from all applications and government documents. Why should someone's race matter to the government or when applying to a school? The only people who want to track race are doing so to premote an agenda.

Forgive me for being an insensitive @$$ but why do we care? CU gets those who are meant for CU. Don't meet the criteria? I heard a rumor, Best is the Standard.

Dirty little secret about Bridge Program.
Jul 13, 2016, 11:59 AM
|
|
The students in the program have higher scores than the vast majority of the minority students that are admitted to Clemson. So Bridge students ( almost all are white ) are made to pay the higher cost of Bridge housing and not start as "full" students. Most think it was about Barker's top 20.

Exactly. The admittance standards for Clemson are a lot more stringent than a lot of schools. However, one should have to earn their admittance rather than get admitted because of skin color or national origin. Isn't that the definition of racism ?

Facts: Clemson is relatively expensive compared too many of the schools listed and has a reasonably limited endowment meaning that they are somewhat limited in what they can offer for tuition assistance . Compared to whites, many more minorities need assistance and that's where the endowment comes. Second, look at the top 50 and you'll quickly see that they have very large endowments own most cases. Third, we need n to be talking students based on race. For many years since the last 1960's schools took their "quota" of minorities and a large percentage of them simply could not keep up with the work, particularly at competitive schools. Our rating can improve but we need not I'm prove it by taking less qualified students JUST BECAUSE they happen to be minorities !!! In the long run it will hurt Clemson and none of us want that

Sounds good but it's not accurate. According to Clemson's website African-American's and Hispanics combine for just 10% of the total student population . Also, according to CNN Money "Best College Values" where Clemson ranks 21st in the country, it points out that 37% of Clemson students get "needs based" financial assistance.
So almost triple the number of whites get financial aid than blacks and Hispanics - combined.
Stereotype much?
