It Was a Dark abd Dreary Morning

Jun 10, 2019, 2:53 PM

here at Clemson Downs and other parts of Clemson. It was raining and when most of us arose, there was no power. It was reported a tree had fallen across a power line about 5:30 AM and power would be restored shortly. Then the time reported for restoration kept changing, the last one predicting 3:00 PM. But about 1:45 PM, PRESTO !!! Power returned and once again we were living in the modern era where electric power controls our lives. If you don't believe that, pull that breaker in your house and leave it open for eight hours.

No coffee, no Eggs Benedick, no waffles, no hotcakes, nothing but cold cereal and milk. Could not open the garage door so we could go for a sausage biscuit at a fast food joint. No TV, no internet, no lights and no clocks working. Couldn't run the vacuum, bake a cake, wash and dry clothes, read a magazine, or even post one of my senseless article on TigerNet. Couldn't do any yard work because of the rain. The door to very avenue of entertainment was closed so I did the next best thing, I went back to bed.

The mail did arrive around noon and guess what? There was my power bill from Duke Energy, $227.44.

Lately I've been trying to "go amish" and ditch all the creature comforts of western civilization but please don't take tigernet away from me.

Joe, I used to have those problems until I bought a small gas griddle that is not only good for cooking during a power outage, but is also great for tailgating. Blackstone makes a very good one, but they can be hard to find:

I bought a different brand from Academy Sports - works great. I use it for cooking a bunch of bacon nearly every Saturday morning and often for pork fried/shrimp fried fried rice:

For either one, it's better to replace the small propane bottles with a 20lb. bottle (you need an adapter).
