Biden announces his first act to stomp out Covid...

Nov 8, 2020, 9:24 PM

Mask mandate for everybody! Well dammm we are all safe now! At least all these mask we buying and lining pockets of manufacturers with now will all be free right?

He has been waiting behind Trump all this time and shaming him for not having a better plan and this is all the older geezer has?

In that case, maybe he should look into proclaiming more mandates:

1) no illegally entering the country
2) no murdering
3) no selling of drugs
4) no destruction of property

lol, the mask is the only one that they will “try” to enforce.

I think his first one was to end all Trump presidential super spreader rallies.

I think the mandates will be in place before he ever gets

in office. Utah's mandate is in place today. Other states will follow over the next several weeks. Not because of anything political, but because of the spread of the virus in those locations.

I think there is an important point to make here....

Nov 9, 2020, 8:20 AM

he is calling for the states to have mask mandates. He is not saying he will personally issue a Federal mandate, because he knows he doesn't have that power. From his position as President (elect for now), he is going to lead and try to pull the governors together. Many may not cooperate and he said that in those cases he will work directly with mayors and local governments.

Agree with a mask mandate or not, it's refreshing to see a President who understands how our country's government works!

Decent people have been. Most a-holes refuse to wear one unless 'forced' and then they have chin-diapers with their dicknose hanging out...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oh really? I sure see a LOT of ppl not wearing masks...

Nov 9, 2020, 8:51 AM [ in reply to Re: I think there is an important point to make here.... ]

and there certainly isn't a mandate in all places.

As has been shown, the data seems to support the idea of mandates making a difference.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We've had a mandate where I live. Didn't matter

Nov 9, 2020, 10:42 AM

same people who weren't gonna wear one at Home Depot or Publix still didn't wear one.

It's a feel good effort, largely dependent on the priority placed on enforcement at a local level.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You don't think it makes any difference in % people...

Nov 9, 2020, 10:47 AM

wearing?

I know when the mask mandate went into place in Anderson, I noticed a big increase in people wearing them. That's not to say that everyone is...there are still a lot of people that don't, but aren't we playing a percentage game here? If a mask mandate leads to a measurable increase in mask usage, but far shy of 100%, that doesn't mean the mandate was a failure, right?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Depends on how you define it I guess.

Nov 9, 2020, 10:49 AM

I'm guessing you may have a mandate at your company that people show up to work on time. Would you consider that mandate successful if, every day, 30% of the workforce was late?

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think that's a great comparison...

Nov 9, 2020, 11:32 AM

We do have a good bit of unplanned absenteeism/tardiness. We run an occurrence/point system.

But back to the point, not much of anything is 100% as it relates to effectiveness at preventing the spread of COVID. As an example, if a mask ordinance increase mask usage from 30% to 60% - doubling usage rate, one wouldn't say it was a waste of time...assuming one believes masks are effective at limiting the spread. After that, you're into enforcement and balance between general acceptance / push-back.
