Did we offer Troy Pride due to Bryan Edwards going to Usuck?

Dec 17, 2015, 10:29 PM

Just spitballing here... maybe we preferred Bryan Edwards for DB but could convince him to change from being a WR and thus lost him to the Gamecocks. Two days later we offer Troy Pride. Coincidence?

Pride's been on the radar - or "under evaluation", as they put it - for awhile now.

Guessing they wanted to watch him in the Shrine Bowl practices - in other words, against other good players - before they made the determination, offer or no offer. No point taking a guy who isn't good enough to contribute just to sign a warm body, especially as short on scholies as Clemson is these days. If you just offer a warm body, you may end up not having space for that 5-star who wants to commit late...and when you're the #1 team in the country and playing for the national title, you can definitely have that problem.

Pride's legit. I've been hearing that for awhile now, he just sort of definitively showed it in the Shrine Bowl practices and the coaches apparently said: "go" and pulled the trigger.

It's an NCAA violation for coaches to attend all star game practices

Brad Brownell: more losses than any other coach in school history.

Pride is the backup for Trayvon Mullen

Not Edwards.

Edwards never had an offer as a WR from what I understand, and the coots offered him as a WR. If staff would have offered him as WR, he wouldn't be a coot.

We didnt exactly "lose" him to the coots. He had already committed to them once. When he couldnt play the position he wanted to at Clemson, he went back to the coots. Pride is solid. Looks like Mullen is leaning towards Louisville.
