It actually is a good crowd when you consider the following

Aug 31, 2013, 10:15 AM

1. The blimp shots are from about 50,000 ft.

2. Bowman is big

3. ESPN is SEC biased

4. Most people would rather be at home posting on TNET

All in All... not too bad

The blimp has never been anywhere close to 50,000ft.
5,000 maybe, but 50,000 never.

Most flights, whether with passengers or cross-country, are at 1,000-1,500 feet. Goodyear likes to keep the ship close to the ground so that people can see it more easily. It has a maximum altitude, depending on the variables of the atmosphere, of about 5.000 feet. Beyond that height the air gets thinner and the helium expands, causing automatic safety valves to open.

Blimps will be flying around 1200 ft

Aug 31, 2013, 11:14 AM

Or so above the campus. I think legally they have to be at least 1000 ft above populated areas. Normally between 1000-3000 ft is a reasonable altitude for a modern blimp. I think above 4000 ft it gets more demanding to fly .
