Klesko

Justice was the one I really hated to leave off but he

played same position as Hank.

No Lempkee, no Belliard, where in the hell is Sid Bream?

I really hope I didn't spell any of those names properly.

HOW CAN YOU SO-CALLED "FANS" CONTINUE

May 2, 2013, 12:00 PM

TO LEAVE OFF KLESKO? WHAT WITH HIS BLAZING SPEED AND PLATINUM GLOVE IN LEFT FIELD......SHEESH!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He's one of the better LF the Braves have had

May 2, 2013, 12:02 PM

But he wasn't better than Carty, IMO. You could make a very reasonable argument for Klesko being first-team all-time for Atlanta.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oh man really I was just

May 2, 2013, 12:04 PM

joking about Klesko. He was a sloth out in LF.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not a good defender, but a very good hitter.

May 2, 2013, 12:06 PM

Assuming he didn't get any...help.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We haven't had too many great SS or 2B. McCann over

May 2, 2013, 12:02 PM [ in reply to Re: All-Time Barves team and batting order while in ATL: ]

Murphy? I don't know, man. Little Hub over "the Kitten"? No way.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-jospehg.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Murphy played 85 games at catcher in his career.

May 2, 2013, 12:04 PM

I don't consider him a catcher. Andruw was a better player than Murph.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

BLASPHEMY

May 2, 2013, 12:08 PM

How dare you besmirch the legacy of Dale Murphy. My 10 year old self wants to beat you up.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'd rather have Murphy at my barbecue

May 2, 2013, 12:10 PM

Or in my house. But if we're making a fantasy baseball team, it's Andruw, who has a borderline HOF case himself (and a better one than Murph, IMO).

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If Dale didn't play on some of the worst Braves teams ever

May 2, 2013, 12:12 PM

I'm betting you would see a ton more R.B.I.'s and HR's. The Braves had exactly one bat in the lineup with Murphy played, and he still managed to put up numbers.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't really consider RBIs much. Murphy has a little edge

May 2, 2013, 12:16 PM

in OBP. Andruw has a larger edge in SLG. The real separating factor is that, while Murphy was a very good defensive player, Andruw was a transcendent defensive player, probably one of the top two or three in the history of baseball in CF (maybe THE best).

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Can we stick Dale in left then?***

May 2, 2013, 12:19 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Played there more than catcher (101 games to 85)

May 2, 2013, 12:22 PM

But, hey, you can build your team however you want.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Andruw Jones doesn't even touch Willie Mays in CF***

May 2, 2013, 12:45 PM [ in reply to I don't really consider RBIs much. Murphy has a little edge ]

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg2006_ncaa_champ.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I didn't watch Mays, obviously.

May 2, 2013, 12:53 PM

Probably watched at least 1,000 games Andruw played. He's about twice as good as any other I've watched. The metrics like him better than Mays, though faulty they may be.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Did you watch Murphy play CF?

May 2, 2013, 1:07 PM

He was no Mays or Jones, but he was no slouch. And I'd much rather have his bat in the middle of the lineup than Andruw's.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Exactly, Dale Murphy for president

May 2, 2013, 1:09 PM

Seriously though, my 10 year old self would fight anyone talking trash about my man Dale. He was the only bright spot of being a Braves fan, and should be rewarded thusly.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No. Before my time.

May 2, 2013, 1:10 PM [ in reply to Did you watch Murphy play CF? ]

At his best, Murphy was a better hitter than Andruw, but Andruw seems to have accumulated an equivalent offensive career.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's hard to compare eras but Jones routinely made

May 2, 2013, 1:03 PM [ in reply to Andruw Jones doesn't even touch Willie Mays in CF*** ]

catches just as good as Mays' famous over the shoulder catch in the WS.

Maddux once said AJ is worth one run a game because he played so shallow and took away so many singles.

Component of defense than range. Players at neither position tend to do much "bobbling" of grounders. What matters most is how many balls you can get to.

May 2, 2013, 12:13 PM

1994 (strike shortened) - 16-6, 1.56 ERA
1995 - 19-2, 1.63 ERA

In fact, his ERA was sub 2.50 every season from 1992-1998 except for one (2.72). And this was supposedly the height of the steroid era.

Wow...just wow...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ralph Garr kicks everybody on there's butt except Hank
