Shotgun snap on last play of game.

Oct 5, 2015, 11:19 AM

Sorry if Germans......but I haven't heard or read anything about this. I lost my mind while watching it happen.
Correct me if I'm wrong...but that is generally NOT the smartest play.....right?

In the victory formation...

Difference we we ended the 1st half in a spot where we were very close to the goal line. Not nearly as much room.

We were on our 3 didnt have the ability to do it from the shot gun.

THERE ARE SOME GOOBERS ON THIS BOARD THAT HAVE NEVER FOUND ONE POSITIVE THING TO SAY ABOUT CLEMSON NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS. SAD REALLY.

Well I didnt expect NAT to understand anything about sports. I was trying to educate him.

Said the guy that said DW4 NEVER gets

Oct 5, 2015, 12:38 PM

Under center... even though DW4 in fact was under center in the game youre referencing. Lol. Fail.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Said the guy that said DW4 NEVER gets

Oct 5, 2015, 12:41 PM

its almost like it is not literal 99% of our snaps are from the shot gun that is what we are most comfortable with. That is waht 99% of our snaps during practice are from.

Fact is you tried to equate a snap on the 3 yard line with one at mid field.

Once again you are clueless.

Have a nice day NAT.

In those conditions, it was a terrible idea, could have easily gone awry and cost us the game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Agree

Oct 5, 2015, 11:42 AM

slippery ball under center is just as risky even more so if you havnet been doing it all game.

We had 2 RBs there to pounce on any potential issues.

I kinda scratched my head when I saw this myself. Unusual

with the ball flying over Watson's head. Even if fumbled,
the play would most likely would have killed the clock.
But it would have sucked if, with 1 second left, they kick
a long FG to win, ala Florida State game 2010.

Re: Shotgun snap on last play of game.

Oct 5, 2015, 11:41 AM

I think the point was to get it away from lineman. if its a bad snap Deshaun just falls on it. He had the room bc of the field position. We ended the first have on our goal line so it wasn't an option then. A fumbled snap under center leaves a lot of people available to pounce.

Since DW never takes snaps......

Oct 5, 2015, 11:43 AM

directly from center maybe they were afraid that would get messed up.

But I couldn't understand the shotgun snap, especially with a wet ball in the rain - seemed like a greater chance for a mistake.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Since DW never takes snaps......

Oct 5, 2015, 11:45 AM

That is why you have 2 RBs sitting there to each side of watson.

I am certain that Clemson never practices that play and maybe someday Dabo will wise up and get some help from those who really understand the game. Keep trying 'fans'. There has got to be something out there you haven't found yet.

btw/ the coots have no victory formation in their play book!

watch the last play of the first half Saturday

Oct 5, 2015, 12:17 PM

Watson was under center and took a knee at the 3 yard line.

They have a I formation goal line formation also.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: watch the last play of the first half Saturday

Oct 5, 2015, 12:36 PM

Difference is the last play was on the 3 yard line not enough room to do shot gun.

99% of our snaps are from the gun.

The center QB exchange can be tricky and if we do not do it all the time greatly increases the chances of something bad happening.

We had 2 RBs on each side of Watson ready incase if something happened with the snap.

Did it work?

Oct 5, 2015, 11:53 AM

No worries then...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

wrong... bad snap there and time likely runs out... even if they

Oct 5, 2015, 12:38 PM

recover

you drop it under center and they recover... they likely get one shot to the EZ

there's also the element of push... under center ND DL likely makes a push to force bad snap... getting in the gun neutralizes that, as you could see they barely moved on snap

I'm not gonna say it shouldn't have been a shotgun snap

Oct 5, 2015, 12:46 PM

But I really would've like a running back behind him (like there is in the traditional victory formation) just in case something went screwy and the ball flew by or over the QB.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Watson rarely goes under center.

Oct 5, 2015, 12:59 PM

As said, had to at the end of the half, no choice. It would have to have been a bad snap of epic proportions for ND to have made anything with it. The bigger risk there was the snap jamming a finger or something.

Some of y'all are just ridiculous. It was a monsoon at that

Oct 5, 2015, 1:13 PM

point, the ball was probably very slick, and we rarely take snaps from under center. If you screw up the exchange under center there's a very good chance the D gets the ball. The only thing that can go wrong on the shotgun snap is a bad snap from the center, however it's much more likely that we would recover.
