1897 Penn Quakers vs 2018 Clemson Tigers ::: Point Spread???

Jan 17, 2019, 11:23 PM

I keep hearing about how wonderfully talented that 1987 Penn team was. Too bad we don't have a time machine to bring them to 2019 for a quick game with the Clemson Tigers.

Whaddayathink the point spread would be?

But the flying wedge was; can you imagine our backs in the wedge. Especially when we played the local YMCA and the other teams on their schedule.

May want to rethink your score. If we play under 1897 rules, a TD was only worth 5 points.

A 2018 game with the Quakers would be no contest, however go back in time under the 1897 rules and equipment it might be a little closer

Ii agree, The rules are so different, you can't compare the teams that way. No doubt athletes are better nnow, so no contest physically, But playing by their rules would make it interesting.

Head coach George Washington Woodruff and players Truxtun Hare, John Minds, and John H. Outland are all inductees of the College Football Hall of Fame. Outland is the namesake of the Outland Trophy, awarded annually to the best college football interior lineman. The Quakers' 15 wins in a single season would not be equalled until the 2018 Clemson Tigers. BOOM!

The score would be whatever Clemson wanted to score to zero

Jan 18, 2019, 1:54 AM

but I doubt they'd even be able to finish the game because Penn players would drop like flies.

Probably right JD! Did they have anybody weighing over 200 lbs? I can remember when their were lots of players weighing less than that..... Also when there were few 300+ pounders - and now they are quite common ......

If people were as good as their obituary - and products were as good as advertised - this would truly be a wonderful world !!

Lyn-J would rush for about 400 yards and 6 TDs on 8 carries

I think the Tigers would be favored by 5 or so, but you could bet E$ECPN would have us on "Upset Alert."
